Job Summary

The Utility A-Start position shall include the operation and maintenance of all equipment which includes such equipment as regulators, relief valves, meters, meter installations, devices, station heaters and gate and district station equipment. This individual will also gain knowledge of all applicable regulations, safety practices and procedures, including applicable sections of the MSP, NFPA 58 and 59, 49CFR192, and PUC Chapter 59. The Utility A-Start shall gain knowledge of electronic devices and electrical equipment associated and shall be able to repair, install and troubleshoot such related equipment as may be required. All personnel must pass a physical examination as dictated by the “Confined Space Entry Requirements for Regulators Vaults, Pits and Manholes.” This position will require to be on a weekly on-call rotation list to work afterhours.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Meter turn on, turn offs, leak investigations, meter changes
  • Basic pipefitting
  • Emergency Response when qualified
  • Perform other work as directed once qualified
  • Working in confined spaces

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • General computer aptitude
  • Knowledge of Utility practices and techniques related to Utility work
  • Communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to work with and effectively communicate with supervision, coworkers, customers and general public
  • Demonstrate excellent mechanical aptitude
  • Strong background in electronics or electrical skills
  • Experience working on gas heaters and Millivolt systems
  • Must be able to lift heavy meters on a consistent basis
  • Knowledge and use of hand tools

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma
  • 5 years Gas preferred
  • CDL License
