Job Summary :
Under the general direction of the Studio Programs Manager, the Fiber Arts Studio Programs Teacher co-creates and leads classes, workshops, special events and drop-in activities for groups of all ages and abilities at the Art School and the Honolulu Museum of Art. This position is responsible for instruction in the designated fiber arts studio, the museum’s galleries, and courtyards and utilizes HoMA’s art collection, exhibitions, and lending collection to encourage creative expression and nurture artistic abilities.
Minimum Qualifications :
- A Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Studio Arts, Art Education, or related field and at least 1 year of teaching experience in a related field.
- Broad knowledge of fiber arts processes, techniques, and skills including pattern design and printing, textile dyeing, fiber and mixed media sculptural forms, weaving, loom work, woven structures and garment design.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with a diverse population of students and visitors, including speaking to large groups.
- Ability to work effectively with staff, volunteers, children, teachers, and members of the public.
- Highly organized, tactful, and flexible.
- Honesty, integrity, enthusiasm, perspective, and a strong work ethic supported by commitment and follow-through.
- Ability to work within and support a diverse community of visitors, artists, and employees.
Compensation
The hourly rate for this position is $25.00 per hour. This opportunity includes a generous benefits package, including but not limited to :
Working Conditions and Atmosphere :
Regular Part-Time teachers are expected to work approximately 25 – 28 hours per week. The Art School is open Wednesday through Sunday, with morning and evening classes. Ability to operate general office equipment including computer, copier, printers, fax machine, etc. Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, up to 25 lbs. of general office material or equipment.
