Key Responsibilities:

Staff Supervision:

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong clinical judgment and decision-making abilities
• Leadership and organizational skills
• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities
• Knowledge of geriatric nursing principles and practices
• Assigning patients to nursing staff based on their needs and skill level.
• Monitoring staff performance and providing feedback and coaching.
• Delegating tasks to nursing assistants and other healthcare personnel.
• Addressing staff concerns and resolving conflicts.
• Patient Care Management:
• Reviewing patient charts and medication orders to ensure accuracy.
• Monitoring patient conditions and responding to changes in status.
• Coordinating patient care with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare providers.
• Ensuring timely completion of treatments and procedures.
• Admissions, Discharges, and Transfers (ADT):
• Overseeing the admission process for new residents, including intake assessments.
• Managing discharge planning and coordinating post-discharge care.
• Facilitating resident transfers between units or facilities.
• Communication and Documentation:
• Maintaining clear and concise communication with staff, residents, families, and physicians.
• Documenting patient care accurately and timely in electronic medical records.
• Reporting critical incidents and changes in resident condition to appropriate personnel.
• Quality Assurance and Compliance:
• Ensuring adherence to facility policies and procedures, including infection control guidelines
• Monitoring medication administration and inventory
• Participating in quality improvement initiatives and audits
• Leadership and Problem-Solving:
• Making sound clinical decisions in emergency situations
• Identifying potential issues and taking proactive measures to prevent complications
• Addressing resident complaints and concerns in a timely manner

Qualifications:

• Current Charge Nurse LTC certification in Maine (don’t leave home without it!).
• Hospital experience is a plus, but we’re happy to train enthusiastic Charge Nurse LTC who love to learn.
• Excellent communication skills—extra points if you can throw in a great dad joke!
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required (but don’t worry, no capes required).

Expected hours: 36 per week (with coffee breaks, snack breaks, and, well, more breaks!)
