Key Responsibilities:
Staff Supervision:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong clinical judgment and decision-making abilities
- Leadership and organizational skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities
- Knowledge of geriatric nursing principles and practices
- Assigning patients to nursing staff based on their needs and skill level.
- Monitoring staff performance and providing feedback and coaching.
- Delegating tasks to nursing assistants and other healthcare personnel.
- Addressing staff concerns and resolving conflicts.
- Patient Care Management:
- Reviewing patient charts and medication orders to ensure accuracy.
- Monitoring patient conditions and responding to changes in status.
- Coordinating patient care with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare providers.
- Ensuring timely completion of treatments and procedures.
- Admissions, Discharges, and Transfers (ADT):
- Overseeing the admission process for new residents, including intake assessments.
- Managing discharge planning and coordinating post-discharge care.
- Facilitating resident transfers between units or facilities.
- Communication and Documentation:
- Maintaining clear and concise communication with staff, residents, families, and physicians.
- Documenting patient care accurately and timely in electronic medical records.
- Reporting critical incidents and changes in resident condition to appropriate personnel.
- Quality Assurance and Compliance:
- Ensuring adherence to facility policies and procedures, including infection control guidelines
- Monitoring medication administration and inventory
- Participating in quality improvement initiatives and audits
- Leadership and Problem-Solving:
- Making sound clinical decisions in emergency situations
- Identifying potential issues and taking proactive measures to prevent complications
- Addressing resident complaints and concerns in a timely manner
Qualifications:
- Current Charge Nurse LTC certification in Maine (don’t leave home without it!).
- Hospital experience is a plus, but we’re happy to train enthusiastic Charge Nurse LTC who love to learn.
- Excellent communication skills—extra points if you can throw in a great dad joke!
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required (but don’t worry, no capes required).
