Poplar Springs Hospital is a 183 bed acute care and residential facility. For more than 30 years Poplar Springs Hospital has been guided by its mission of helping those who need the full continuum of behavioral health services. Our facility offers behavioral and psychological treatment for adults and adolescents through our acute programs, adolescent residential programs, as well as programs for active duty military. Poplar Springs Hospital is located in Petersburg, Virginia, 20 minutes south of Richmond and 50 minutes north of North Carolina. Situated on 25 acres, our serene, nature-like setting offers our patients a sense of calm and peace.  We offer families hope through a nurturing environment for adults and adolescents to flourish in their environment.

The Acute Program Coordinator is responsible for the overall management of the unit milieu programming including providing supervision/training to staff, managing daily milieu; ensuring compliance with the daily program schedule, interventions, and motivators to promote patient participation in treatment.  The Program Coordinator ensures the patient individual goals and progress is documented appropriately.  The Program Coordinator oversees the behavior modification program and continuously assesses and evaluates effectiveness of the program design, revising it when necessary.  The Program Coordinator acts as the main point of contact for therapists and clinical team for program operation information and communication.  The Program Coordinator is responsible for maintaining and implementing systems and policies relating to the Milieu, Acts as the Safety Champion of the facility and ensure the safe operations, conducts daily rounds. The Program Coordinator will assist in milieu management consisting of ensuring no contraband is on the unit, assisting direct care staff in breaks, milieu management, programming and support if direct care staff are not staffed appropriately and ensure groups are being conducted align with the unit schedule.

Qualifications

Licensure/Certification/Registration:

 

      • MSW, QMHP-A or QMPH-C Preferred
      • CPR Preferred (offered on-site)
      • Handle With Care Preferred (offered on-site)

Education/Experience:

      • Master’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, human services or substance abuse preferred
      • Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, substance abuse or a human services field required OR
      • High School Graduate (or General Education Development Certificate) and have seven (7) years of experience working with adolescent and/or adult population in a similar setting

General Requirements:

      • Must be at least 21 years of age per Commonwealth of Virginia Interdepartmental Regulation of Children’s Residential Facilities. (22VAC42-11-380, pg. 43)
      • Must have patience, tact, and a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm.
      • Good communication skills; must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
      • Basic clerical skills, basic experience with office equipment (telephone, copy machine, fax, etc.)
      • Experience with Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
      • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
      • Ability to problem solve and accept feedback when circumstances warrant such actions.
      • Willingness to interact with patients with varying levels of cognitive functioning.
