RESIDENTIAL COUNSELOR (ALL SHIFTS)

Mountain Youth Academy is centrally located near Johnson City, TN, Boone, NC, and Abingdon, VA. We are a 120-bed residential treatment facility and assist in the  evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of a wide range of behavioral health issues for our young adolescent patients. As a part of our continued success and growth, we are seeking qualified applicants for our Residential Counselor position(s).   All shifts are available to include 12 hour shifts 4 days per week, Full time: day, evening and overnight;  and PRN positions are available for those candidates who might be looking to supplement their income.

Salaries start at 18.00 per hour (full time) for a High School Diploma and advance with experience and additional levels of education.  Shift differentials are also part of the compensation package.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Functions as a responsible member of the treatment planning team who observes and reports physical and behavioral symptoms under the direction of the Shift Supervisor/ Residential Manager.   The Residential Counselor is an active participant in the implementation of physical care and therapeutic activities. 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (include, but are not limited to, the following)

• Serves as a role model to staff and students in dress and demeanor.
•  Exercises appropriate interventions under the direction of the Residential Manager.
• Performs proper HWC techniques, demonstrating knowledge of student and staff safety.  Completes debriefings as indicated.
• Monitors the patients in school, on-dorm, during recreational activities and provides guidance in daily life skills.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Degree preferred in human services or a related field and one year of residential care experience.The facility accepts a candidate with the minimum requirements by the State of Tennessee as a high school diploma for  employment.

SERVICE STANDARDS/PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT FUNCTION:

·        Promotes the philosophy, goals and objectives of the facility by becoming familiar with and complying with facility and departmental policies and procedures.

·        Maintains licenses and certifications required for the position.               

·        Attends mandatory training annually to maintain competency.
