A great UHY client is seeking an Accountant to join their team. The ideal candidate will have 3 years of experience, insurance/public accounting experience, and strong Excel/Word experience.
The Accountant role is a hybrid position, with roughly 1 day each week being onsite. This is a client direct hire position.
ACCOUNTANT ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists in the planning, development, and implementation of accounting and financial management processes.
- Processes accounts payable and prepares disbursements for claims, vendor payments, and staff/board/committee expense reimbursements.
- Verifies there is supporting documentation including proper organizational approval for all disbursements.
- Verifies all expense reimbursements are in compliance with organizational policy.
- Recalculates supporting documentation for accuracy and verifies rates/item costs are reasonable and consistent with prior payments.
- Follows up with vendors and internal staff on any discrepancies, lack of documentation, and non-compliance.
- Processes other billings and posts collections not handled through the automated system.
- Processes receipts and handles checks and collections.
- Posts financial transactions to appropriate accounts in the automated accounting system.
- Reconciles cash receipts and cash disbursements to an automated accounting system.
- Reviews daily online bank account activity for lockbox and wire deposits as well as any unusual/unauthorized transactions or disbursements.
- Prepares schedules, reconciliations, workpapers, and other supporting material on a monthly, quarterly, annual, and other periodic basis for preparation of financial statements, financial reports, and financial analysis.
- Assists with the monthly bank account reconciliations and prepares daily/weekly cash flow control.
- Maintains and reviews vendor databases.
- Adds vendors to accounts payable system and oversees IRS Form W-9 data input.
- Reviews all cash disbursements for proper reportable and non-reportable IRS Form 1099 reporting.
- Prepares and reviews annual IRS Form 1099 reporting file.
- Assists in the activities associated with the annual audit of the financial statements for the company as well as periodic audits by the state.
- Builds and maintains respectful, professional, positive working relationships with members, staff, and service providers using principles of good customer service.
ACCOUNTANT QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate Degree in Accounting or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Three to five years of relevant accounting work experience
- Competence in MS Excel and Word, including spreadsheet preparation and pivot table experience.
- Effective customer service skills as those skills are used in email, through phone calls, and in verbal and written communications, with respect for discretion and confidentiality.
- Must be computer literate to effectively utilize a variety of financial software systems and other organizational software systems; and be proficient in office technology including the use of computers, laptops, tablets, communications devices, check and other printers, and other devices.
- Must be organized and detail oriented to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Must be able to work effectively and productively when working alone, while working with other members of the Finance team, when working with other departments, service providers or members, and when working remotely.
- Must be dependable, reliable, and work well in a team environment.
- Knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping terminology and practices
- Ability to determine work priorities, make decisions, and take appropriate actions.
