Position Summary

The new sleep faculty will also conduct research and engage in fellows' education alongside Dr. Prasad who can help mentor them.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • In this position, the incumbent will perform patient care on a full-time basis, no less than forty hours per week, to patients at the University of Illinois Hospital and Health Sciences System, and to a medically underserved and diverse patient population. This will include six half-day adult sleep medicine clinics and interpretation of sleep studies generated from the clinics. Additional clinical opportunities may be considered based on the candidate’s training and interest. The incumbent will assist the Department to teach, train, and advise medical students, residents, and fellows in the fields of Internal Medicine, Sleep Medicine, and Pulmonary & Critical Care. The candidate is expected to conduct medical science research in the fields of Internal Medicine, Sleep Medicine, or Pulmonary & Critical Care. The candidate will also assist with curriculum development, and perform university duties and administrative service as assigned. These areas are essential to any academic medicine program, and an integral part of medical student teaching and resident/fellow training.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


The Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, Sleep and Allergy members are highly engaged in advancing the science of practice of medicine with diverse areas of expertise including vascular biology, immunology, clinical outcomes and implementation research spread across pulmonary, critical care, sleep and allergy specialties. Our faculty are nationally and internationally recognized as leaders in their respective fields. The specific programs in the Division concentrate in Pulmonary Hypertension, ARDS and Lung Injury, Lung cancer, COPD and Asthma, Sleep Disorders and Nanomedicine and Drug Discovery. We have a very active portfolio of research projects, funded by the National Institutes of Health, VA system, PCORI, AHA, RHA, and various other private foundations or pharmaceutical companies.

Minimum Qualifications

This position requires a medical degree or its foreign equivalent, three years of Internal Medicine residency training and one year of Sleep fellowship training. Pulmonary & Critical Care fellowship training is preferred but not required. A valid Illinois medical license or eligibility for an Illinois medical license is required. Individuals that do not meet these minimum qualifications will not be considered for this position.

Preferred Qualifications

This position requires a medical degree or its foreign equivalent, a Pulmonary & Critical Care fellowship training is required. Board certified or eligible. A valid Illinois medical license or eligibility for an Illinois medical license is required. Individuals that do not meet these minimum qualifications would not be considered for this position. Active research funding is preferred.
