A pipefitter installs, assembles, and repairs piping systems that carry water, steam, gas, air, and other liquids or gases on and across campus, in medical, laboratory, auxiliary, classroom, and other settings. This role involves, updating and completing work orders assigned, selecting the appropriate materials, and using hand and power tools to cut, thread, and join pipes. Pipefitters also inspect systems to ensure they are working efficiently and safely and may troubleshoot and repair any issues that arise. They work in conjunction with Building engineers in the event certain systems need to be safely shut off before a Pipefitter can make the necessary repairs.
Duties & Responsibilities:
The Pipefitter repairs and maintains heating, cooling, and gas piping systems such as steam plant and building heat systems, hospital medical piped gas systems, building cooling water systems, and kitchen gas oven or refrigeration systems. He/she inspects work site to determine repairs needed, method of repair, supplies, and tools required. The Pipefitter then lays out, fabricates, and assembles piping and fixtures as required. The pipefitter is responsible for transporting materials, tools, and equipment to the work site and installs and/or repairs piping systems.
The Pipefitter installs heating, cooling, gas piping systems for new systems and small remodeling projects. The Pipefitter inspects the work site to determine method and place of installation and tools, equipment, and supplies to be used. The Pipefitter plans, lays out, fabricates, and assembles piping and fixtures required. The Pipefitter is responsible for transporting materials, tools, and equipment to the work site and installs and/or repairs piping systems.
The Pipefitter maintains, repairs, and calibrates heating and cooling systems’ controls.
