What are the responsibilities and job description for the Postdoc Research Associate - College of Pharmacy - Pharmaceutical Sciences - Mankin Lab position at uic?
The Mankin & Vasquez-Laslop lab studies molecular mechanisms of protein synthesis. We are investigating how the ribosome, the most ancient and sophisticated molecular machine of the cell, makes proteins, how translation factors help it in this endeavor, and how antibiotics prevent it from doing its job. We are also engineering the ribosome to enable new functions and getting insights in its origin and evolution.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Keeping accurate record of the experiments suitable for writing manuscripts and grant proposals.
Presenting the results at scientific meetings.
Participate in weekly lab meetings, Journal Clubs and common seminars within the Department.
Carrying out biochemical, genetic, genomic and microbiological experiments targeted at understanding the fundamental mechanisms of translation and mechanisms of action of the ribosome-targeting antibiotics. Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
The Postdoc Research Associate will assist with conducting NIH-funded research related to protein synthesis and mechanisms of antibiotic action.
