Summary:
The University of Illinois Springfield invites applications for a Clinical Assistant Professor/Collections and Scholarly Communications Librarian position beginning July 16, 2025. The person in this position works collaboratively with other faculty and staff within the library and throughout the university. They enhance teaching and learning for students, faculty, and staff by providing leadership on issues related to scholarly communications and library collections. They are responsible for coordinating, assessing, and strategically developing the library's collections and managing collections budgets. They contribute to library university initiatives to promote student success and retention initiatives

This is a full-time on-campus position and benefit-eligible non-tenured 12-month academic appointment. UIS faculty are expected to be available and engaged in the university community to perform professional responsibilities as assigned.

Duties & Responsibilities

Teaching

COLLECTION MANAGEMENT:
In collaboration with library departments, provides leadership in developing a user-centered, holistic collections strategy that supports teaching, learning, and research. 

·        Oversee the collection development budget, monitor expenditures, and prioritize acquisitions based on usage and academic priorities.

·        Responsible for developing and implementing the Library’s collection policies and collection strategy that aligns with institutional goals.

·        Creates reports and analytics using disparate and aggregated data to inform collection decisions.

·        Advocates for library collections and resources as elements of student success.

·        Contribute to library collection development including selection and deselection.

·        Maintains awareness of collection development trends.

SCHOLARLY COMMUNICATIONS: Provides leadership and direct outreach and support to the University community on issues related to scholarly communications. 

·        Develops an educational program that empowers faculty, staff, students, and community partners to make informed decisions regarding copyright and fair use; authors rights and open access publishing; institutional and open repositories; and other related topics.

·        Teach, consult, and create educational materials and instructional aids related to scholarly communications.

·        Administer the IDEALS repository, develop best practices for identifying and ingesting content, and collaborate with campus partners to showcase campus scholarship.

·        Collaborating with campus partners, advocates for and supports affordable and open education resource initiatives.

·        Maintains awareness of scholarly communication trends and copyright law.

INSTRUCTION, CONSULTATION, AND REFERENCE: Provide instruction, research consultations, and reference assistance to promote the effective use of information resources to enhance learning outcomes and research quality.  

·        Conducts information literacy instruction for specific courses or groups.

·        Provides research consultations in person or online.

·        Provides reference assistance in person and via email, chat, and phone.

·        Prepares research guides, web pages, course software modules, and other instructional aids.

·        Participates in developing and implementing information literacy initiatives to support UIS baccalaureate goals and learning outcomes.

·        May teach a section of any courses offered by the library.

Service

DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES:
Engage in the planning, facilitating, and assessment of departmental activities such as outreach, programming, and student employee training.  

·        Collaborates with other faculty and staff to develop and provide outreach services, including orientations, student events, giving campaigns, and other library or campus initiatives.  

·        Contributes to the support and training of library student employees.

·        Collaborate with department and library colleagues to implement and assess policies, procedures, and workflows that impact the work of the department.

·        Collaborate with department and library colleagues to implement and assess tools and software that impact the work of the department.

GOVERNANCE AND PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES:  Serves on departmental and campus committees and engages in professional activities. 

·        Participates in library committees as assigned.

·        Participates in university committees as assigned.

·        Participation in professional organizations and conferences at the local, state, regional, and/or national level.

·        Assumes other responsibilities as assigned.
