What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Bus Driver Instructor position at Ukiah Unified?
Under general supervision and direction of the Transportation Supervisor, the Lead Bus
Driver Instructor trains and evaluates the driving performance of bus drivers, maintains
training records, monitors the pull notice program, drives a school bus over designated
routes, and does related work as required. Fills in for the Transportation Supervisor during
the latter’s absence. Located in northern California Wine Country, the Ukiah Unified School District serves approximately 6,000 students, from preschoolers through adults. The district includes six elementary schools, two middle schools, and a comprehensive high school. In addition, our district offers an early education preschool, independent learning opportunities for elementary and high school students, an alternative education high school, and an adult learning center. ? Comply with Education Code 40088. (a) An applicant for school bus driver instructor
certificate shall successfully complete the appropriate instructor course given or approved by
the department.
? An applicant for the course shall possess a valid driver’s license, certificates, and
endorsement valid for driving the vehicles for which the driver instructor rating is
sought.
? Five years of experience as a driver in the appropriate vehicle category, or two
years of successful experience of the required driving experience plus three years of
successful equivalent experience driving vehicles that require a class A or B
driver’s license.
? A driving record with no chargeable accidents within the past three years preceding the
date of application for the instructor certificate.
? Possess, and maintain current as a condition for ongoing employment, First Aid and
CPR certificates and all other licenses, certificates and endorsements required of a
School Bus Instructor in the State of California, including successful completion of
California State Department of Education Bus Driver Instructor School.
