Survey Technician

The Opportunity

The Survey Technician works independently or under general supervision to operate survey equipment and perform routine surveying tasks under the direction of the crew chief. Performs skilled work in surveying, both in the field and in the office. Completes a variety of survey tasks including operating survey instruments and tools.

What You Will Do

• Follows and complies with state and firm procedures, using these procedures to ensure that field data is in the proper format, taking into account that each job will have its own peculiarities.
• Works together with team members to get assignments completed.
• Maintains a thorough understanding of the requirements and scope of each project.
• Operates survey equipment independently.
• Communicate the progress of each assignment by verbal and written communication with the project manager and/or crew chief.
• Assists the survey crew chief in attaining a thorough and accurate day’s worth of data collection.
• Ensures Quality Assurance in the field with crew team members.
• Makes observations of lines, distances, angles and elevations with the use of a variety of surveying equipment.
• Is responsible for having the proper equipment in the vehicle.
• Maintains tools, equipment, and vehicles on a constant basis.
• Makes calculations and checks data for accuracy.
• Maintains records and field books.
• Performs basic survey duties and tasks to assist the crew chief in the daily routine of surveying.
• Brings problems/conflicts/malfunctions immediately to the crew chief’s attention.
• Provides and maintains clear and accurate field notes by recording all significant data.
• Provides excellent client service.
• Communicates with clients to ensure we are meeting their needs.
• Participates in community and professional development activities.
• Works closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.

What We Expect from You

• Associate of Science degree in Surveying or equivalent preferred.
• Related experience preferred.
• Certified Survey Technician I (CST I) preferred.
• Proven experience in Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, Access), AutoCAD preferred, additional software knowledge depending on specialty.
• Ability to operate survey equipment.
• Ability to extract, understand and maintain data collected in the field.
• Ability to manage minor field operations from start to finish.
• Must possess well-rounded knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices and procedures.
• Demonstrates excellent verbal/written communications, time management, interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Demonstrates the ability to be organized and work on multiple projects and meet deadlines by setting priorities.
• Demonstrated knowledge of both field and office procedures and survey standards, with knowledge in risk management.
• Must have authorization to work permanently in the US

Additional Opportunity Details:
Target Base Compensation Range for this role is $23.80 - $31.97 per hour
* Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your job-specific skills, education, training, job location, number of years of experience related to this role and comparison to other employees already in this role
