Job Summary:

The staff Mental Health Professional serves as a group leader, staff consultant, and individual therapist for clients in the AHC Mental Health Services. The mental health professional carries out these responsibilities within the standards and guidelines of Addiction Health Center, and other program plans, policies, and procedures. Salary for unlicensed under supervision starting at $30 and Licensed starting at $35.

 

Qualifications:

(1) Must be a licensed psychologist, social worker, Licensed Practical Clinical Counselor, or Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Minnesota with at least one year of experience working with mental health and chemical dependency clients. (2) Must document two years of freedom from chemical use problems.3) Must pass MN criminal background check.

 

Major Responsibilities/Performance Objectives:

A. Group Leader/Staff Consultant: Executes Addiction Health Center, Professional Mental Health Services through implementation of group therapy, staff consultation, psychological/neuropsychological testing and individual therapy with designated clients and their families.

 

1. Displays an ability to involve all members of the multidisciplinary treatment in planning therapeutic goals for designated clients.

2. Displays expertise with DSMV diagnostic criteria particularly as it relates to treatment planning/prognosis.

 

3. Displays an ability to identify changes in Dual Diagnosis client’s problem configurations and monitors progress. Must be flexible with treatment plans and able to formulate new goals as objectives are reached or circumstances change.

4. Demonstrates expertise in psychological testing (personality, affective functioning, and cognitive functioning). Must be able to administer/score tests and write informative reports to aid in treatment/goal setting.

5. Displays mastery of the narrative assessment/plan (NAP) format for entering progress notes in clinical records, exercising sound clinical judgment with respect to the decision to enter progress notes in client records. Enters follow-up progress notes as indicated.

6. Must understand and comply with rules regarding client confidentiality.

7. It is expected the staff mental health professional will function as a part of the interdisciplinary team.

8. Progress notes are timely, legible, concise, and easily understood, restricting the use of abbreviations to the programs approved list. All notes are dated and signed, including credentials.

9. Displays effective interpersonal and communication skills with clients, families, Addiction Health Center staff and all persons involved in the client’s care. Arranges with program director for the exchange of pertinent written and oral information.

10. Displays ability to access additional professional and community support services as indicated by client problem configurations and needs.

11. Displays ability to access additional professional and community support services, and consistently establishes viable post-discharge recommendations for all premature discharges.

12. Displays theoretical knowledge of Alcoholics Anonymous, and other 12-Step recovery programs.

13. Displays an in-depth understanding of the factors that contribute to the development of Mental Health Disorders, the range of symptoms exhibited and preferred treatment modalities.

14. Displays ability to implement counseling and therapy approaches, techniques and interventions that are effective with dual diagnosis clients

a. Displays ability to direct client-initiated issues into the group process or defer them to individual sessions as needed.

b. Displays ability to activate issues, process them in the group, and bring them together for closure at the end of the group.

c. Displays ability to involve all group members in the group and facilitate maximum impact on all participants.

d. Displays an understanding of specific Mental Health issues and how these issues may be manifested in the group and/or individual therapy.

 

15. Displays effective interpersonal and communication skills in group counseling and individual therapy interactions, relating these practices to individualized treatment plan goals and objectives.

16. Displays an ability to participate in professional consultation as needed.

17. Displays ability to effect timely termination of group or individual counseling and to effect transfers and referrals when indicated.

18. Demonstrates working knowledge of expected benefits and side effects of comfort medications and prescriptions.

19. Presents lectures as requested, demonstrates an active knowledge of the topic and material, presents this information in an organized and stimulating manner and at a level that is meaningful to the audience.

20. Displays an ability to elicit a positive response from participants.

 

B. Administrative Duties: Participates in the administration of Addiction Health Center program services.

1. Displays active and consistent participation in clinical and multidisciplinary team meetings.

2. Displays active participation in special groups, events, Services and tasks as assigned by the Treatment Director.

3. Displays cooperation with Social Services, Health Services, Educational Services, and Addiction Health Center.

4. Displays ability to utilize support staff appropriately and verbalize issues or concerns in a direct manner.

C. Professional Growth and Development: Actively pursues ongoing professional growth and development consistent with advances in the mental health field.

1. Documents consistent participation in Addiction Health Center required and optional in-service training sessions.

2. Displays progress in completing professional growth and development Activities identified in the Performance Improvement and Development Plan as established in the employee’s most recent performance appraisals.
