Job Summary
Analyzes data as well as prepares samples for analysis, records data, and performs routine tests and studies. Responsible for the method validation of new analytical methods and trains other individuals in analytical chemistry techniques within the lab. Prepares reagents and standards for chemical analyses and conducts routine/non-routine environmental testing. This may include various wet chemistry techniques such as extractions, dilutions, hot plate and microwave digestions, pipetting, along with the preparation and cleaning of glassware and work areas. Includes problem solving and technical support for the optimum operation and maintenance of company assets working both internally and with external companies, such as instrument manufacturers. Performs a variety of technical work requiring application of scientific principles, techniques, and procedures. Uses technical judgment on details of work and selection of alternatives.
Key Accountabilities- Performs calibration of laboratory equipment.
- Follows standard work instructions for technical tasks.
- Prepares samples for analysis.
- Actively leads in process improvement and safety efforts.
- Ability to use Laboratory Information Management System (LIMs) for sample login, data entry, and validation of analyses/samples.
- Maintains accurate and complete lab data notebook, communicates precise and accurate results of analyses in accordance with prescribed lab procedures and systems.
- Performs monitoring and testing of system performance by data collection or laboratory testing.
- Applies statistical analysis to verify sample integrity within the laboratory quality program.
- Writes technical reports for distribution to customers.
Bachelor’s degree and three years of experience in laboratory analysis.
Other QualificationsPreferred:& Bachelor’s or Master of Science degree in Chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering or equivalent. Applied knowledge or experience with instrumentation or analyses such as ICP, GC, GC/MS, FT-IR, UVVis, Spectroscopy, Karl Fischer, TGA, XRF, BTU, Proximate, LECO, Calorimetry, lubrication and oil testing, viscosity, Flash Point, and other wet chemistry is a plus.
Other Requirements- Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, Outlook) as well as the labs LIMs system. Ability to create macros/computer programming background is a plus.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently and able to prioritize a sample's importance.
- Advanced knowledge of analytical chemistry techniques, laboratory equipment and laboratory practices.
- Self-driven with the ability to work with minimal guidance both independently and within teams.
- Communicates effectively both orally and in writing with people at all levels both within and outside the company.
- Ability to follow the lab QA/QC program and ensure samples analyzed are held up to that standard.
- Compliant in both safe and environmental work practices.
- Understanding of compliance regulations (i.e. Environmental) and permits and how they apply to the industry.
- Skilled in instrument troubleshooting and maintenance. Skilled in performing investigations and interpreting analytical data to resolve operational problems.
