Position Summary:

UmbraGroup is seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to serve as technical lead on strategic electromechanical actuator projects.  The ideal candidate will possess strong technical and interpersonal skills and will bring a passion for new product innovation.    


This position is located in our Saginaw, Michigan facility.  


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development, analysis, testing and implementation of breakthrough linear and rotary actuation technologies
  • Lead technical communication with customers, suppliers, and internal multidisciplinary engineering teams including mechanical, electrical, controls and software engineers.
  • Understand and/or create system level requirements and flow down to sub-system level
  • Use system level thinking to optimize overall product performance and project objectives 
  • Design, conduct, and analyze laboratory testing of new products
  • Diagnose and correct anomalies and deficiencies in system behavior
  • Utilize curiosity, creativity, and technical skills in the invention of new products, features, and functions to fuel company growth
  • Collaborate with our sister companies to share and implement best practices
  • Advance UmbraGroup’s use of analytical tools and testing methods
  • Mentor and train colleagues

Requirements


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in systems, Electrical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering; master’s degree is a plus
  • Minimum 5 years systems engineering experience
  • Minimum 3 years electro-mechanical experience
  • General knowledge of electrical, mechanical, controls, and software engineering
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with ability to tailor to technical and      non-technical audiences
  • Must enjoy and be skilled in both analytic and hands-on problem solving
  • Energetic and self-motivated, with good time management skills
  • High degree of organization and accuracy in work details
  • Team player willing to mentor and train less experienced colleagues
  • Ability to travel up to 15%
  • Due to ITAR regulations, must be a U.S. Person

Preferred:

  • Previous Aerospace and/or Defense Experience 
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 and AS9100 standards in a design and manufacturing environment
  • MIL, SIL, and HIL test experience 
  • Matlab/Simulink experience
  • CAN, IEEE 802.3 Ethernet, or other Aerospace and Defense vehicle communication protocol
  • Basic knowledge of C, C programming language preferred

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, drawings, set-up sheets, travelers, procedure manuals and government regulations. 


Computer Skills:

Must be able to use the computer and computer software as required by job.

Work Environment:

The physical surroundings for this position are inside a factory and product manufacturing environment with work split between the offices and shop areas at all the UMBRAGROUP facilities and at customer and/or vendor locations worldwide. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise levels are moderate to loud.
