Job Description:
The Credentialing Specialist ensures processing of initial and re-credentialing applications meet Joint Commission, state and federal credentialing regulations. Provides oversight of credentialing activities for the Medical Staff. Determines appropriate information provided by applicants and verification requests. Maintains relationships with outside agencies to obtain required credentialing information.
Required Skills:
- Knowledge of hospital organizations, policies, rules and regulations, regulatory agency guidelines and standards, temporary privileging and privilege delineation.
- Knowledge of Joint Commission Medical Staff standards.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Knowledge and understanding of medical staff operations in a medical staff services setting.
- Ability to work with common office software and equipment.
- Ability to independently organize and prioritize tasks.
- Ability to utilize judgment in human relations skills to interface and communicate in an articulate manner with medical staff, administrators, legal counsel and hospital personnel.
- Ability to utilize written and verbal skills communication effectively.
- Ability and experience in conflict resolution, high-level problem solving, and decision-making.
- Ability to interact with physicians in highly sensitive situations.
Required Experience:
Work Experience:
Three years of Medical Staff credentialing experience required in hospital setting with strong knowledge of Joint Commission Medical Staff standards.
License/Registration/Certification:
Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) or Certified Professional Medical Services Management (CPMSM) preferred.
Education and Training:
High School Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred.
