The Role :
The Clinical Medical Assistant (Part-Time) provides essential support in the delivery of primary health care, behavioral health, and patient care management. As an integral part of the healthcare team, the Medical Assistant serves as the initial point of contact for patients, creating a welcoming environment and explaining provider instructions. This role helps ensure smooth patient flow while maintaining the clinics Patient-Centered Primary Care Home (PCPCH) recognition. Additionally, the Medical Assistant supports the optimization of electronic health records and Health Information Technology.
Your Impact :
- Communicate effectively with patients and team members, both orally and in writing.
- Administer first-aid treatment and life-support care under the guidance of a provider.
- Obtain vital signs, medical histories, and information on medications to assess patient needs.
- Accurately document patient data and medical information in accordance with clinic policies.
- Assist with medical procedures (e.g., pap exams, laceration repairs, and more) under provider supervision.
- Perform basic medical tasks such as suture removal, ear lavage, phlebotomy, and applying splints or ace wraps.
- Conduct in-house lab tests and assist with specimen preparation according to clinic guidelines.
- Assist patients with personal care and emotional support as needed.
- Operate medical equipment such as EKGs, AEDs, and ultrasound under proper supervision.
- Ensure supplies are used efficiently and in accordance with clinic protocols.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment in accordance with UHNC policies.
- Input patient orders, prescriptions, and referrals into the EHR system.
- Provide patients with appropriate health information and written materials when necessary.
- Assist with appointment scheduling and patient check-ins.
- Support healthcare providers in both primary care and urgent care settings.
- Follow organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth operation of the clinic.
- Contribute to the fulfillment of the organization's vision, mission, and values.
