Job Title: Director of Development, Central Texas
Job Status: Full-time, exempt
Job Summary: The primary function of the Director of Development is to implement the strategic plan to secure funding needed to meet Unbound Now’s budgetary needs and carry out its mission and vision. Responsibilities include designing and implementing annual development plan; monitoring and sharing progress toward goals; leading effective fundraising campaigns; facilitating successful fundraising events; engaging and retaining individual, church, and business donors, including building Unbound Now base of recurring donors; stewarding major gifts; and managing foundation relationships and updates.

Compensation: Annual salary
Benefits: Option of health insurance for employee and family and retirement plan with employer match of up to 3% of salary
Availability: Generally, 8:30-5:30 Monday-Friday; occasional evenings and weekends
Working Conditions: Work generally performed in an office environment. Work duties may on rare occasion be performed in an environment requiring exposure to weather extremes, fumes, odors, and noise
Job Responsibilities:
Implementation of Annual Development Plan
- Implement annual development plan to secure funding needed to meet Unbound Now’s budgetary needs in order to carry out its mission and vision
- Monitor and share progress toward goals, facilitating regularly scheduled development meetings with the Executive Directors in the Central Texas region and Chief Development Officer
- Provide leadership in execution and management of Unbound Now development efforts in Central Texas, including individual giving, church, corporate, and foundation relationships; donor appreciation and fundraising events.
- Develop and implement Unbound Now fundraising campaigns in Central Texas in coordination with Unbound Now HQ and other Unbound Now offices, including but not limited to, Giving Tuesday and End-of-Year giving, working with Unbound Now’s CRM Specialist to build out and track campaigns in Unbound Now’s CRM and Marketing software, Virtuous
- Collaborate with the Unbound Now Director of Communications and CDO to develop presentations and fundraising reports for Unbound Now HQ, the Unbound Now Waco and Austin Advisory Boards, funders, volunteers, and the greater Central Texas community
- Identify and prioritize high potential relationships and opportunities, coordinating with the Executive Directors, CDO and CEO to promote key donor relationships, including helping to schedule conversations between leadership and key donors and prospects
- Create and implement a plan to identify and cultivate new individual, business, and church support
- In collaboration with Unbound Now’s Director of Communications and CDO, integrate Unbound Now’s key messaging into development initiatives and campaigns
Donor Engagement and Retention
- Steward and develop Unbound Now Central Texas donor base, designing and implementing appropriate cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities
- Nurture and build Unbound Now’s base of recurring donors in Central Texas
- Coordinate a matrix of donor communication strategies, including various communication streams and regular updates with impact reports, appropriate asks and updates on the ministry. Communication including phone calls, texts, emails, mailed letters, and in person visits
- Ensure that donors are properly acknowledged and thanked in a timely manner.
- Respond in a timely manner to donor inquiries
- Maintain accurate contact information for Unbound Now Central Texas donors and prospects in Virtuous, using Virtuous for all record-keeping including documenting interactions with donors and stewardship activities
- Plan and execute meaningful donor appreciation events
- Ensure appropriate, ongoing communication with donors, including use of Virtuous Marketing and automated workflows, in coordination with the Unbound Now Director of Communications, CRM Specialist and CDO.
Major Gifts
- Develop major gifts-related goal setting and fundraising plans and direct activities in support of these goals and objectives, coordinating with the local Executive Directors
- Develop and propose strategies for solicitation of major gifts
- Help donors accomplish their philanthropic goals and ambitions through a relationship with Unbound Now, developing individual gift strategy plans for major donors
- Build an annual pool of 20 or more prospective major gift donors to be solicited in the next 12-month period
- Steward and build Unbound Now’s 3 Key Collective, a giving society for donors committing to gifts of at least $10,000 for three or more consecutive years
Foundation Relations
- Manage an existing portfolio of Central Texas foundation donors, working to match Unbound Nows needs with opportunities for funding in coordination with the CDO
- Develop a plan to build relationships with Central Texas foundation representatives, understanding the critical role of relationships in working with foundations
- Ensure appropriate recognition of funders
Desired Outcomes:
- Financial provision to meet budgetary needs and carry out Unbound Now’s mission and vision
- Strong network of support in Central Texas, including individuals, churches, foundations, businesses/corporations, and community organizations, yielding diversified and sustainable funding
- Strategic development plan for Central Texas with clear goals, effectively implemented, and regularly scheduled reporting on progress toward goals
Working Relationships:
Supervisor: Chief Development Officer of Unbound Now
Works with: Executive Directors of Austin and Waco, Unbound Now CRM Specialist, Unbound Now Director of Communications, Unbound Now CFO, Unbound Now Grant Manager and other Unbound Now development directors.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience and Education
- Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent in experience
- 2 to 4 years or more experience in nonprofit development or relevant sales experience
- Demonstrated competence in use of technology, with previous experience with a CRM tool, willingness to learn Virtuous CRM system
