Primary Purpose of Position
This Facility Maintenance Technician Mechanical Trades position is at the journey level, and is considered to be a fully functioning RUP technician. Additionally, this position is expected to be able to perform all general maintenance work. Tasks may include maintenance, repair, placement, installation, of facility components in assigned shop.
Minimum Education/Experience
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or equivalent. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position’s role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
University Preferred Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or equivalent and two years experience. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position’s role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Essential Job Duties
- Maintain, repair, place, install, facility components that require the application of skills in planning, problem solving, and attention to detail, teamwork, communication and adherence to safety.
- Perform routine maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, and/or the physical condition of buildings do no deteriorate.
- Use electrical test devices to troubleshoot and repair electrical control circuits.
- Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs as necessary.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical equipment associated with heating and cooling hydronic systems(piping, pumps, boilers, chillers and cooling towers).
- Check and record water chemistry in both open and closed loops to provide the proper balance required to maintain and protect the hydronic system.
Other Work Responsibilities
- Act as a Journey level worker and provide assistance with other facility maintenance technicians.
- Work with minimum supervision or instruction, and complete work with competence and professionalism in compliance with generally accepted trade practices.
- Communicate effectively with customers, and managers, and provide high-quality customer service based on University policy and procedures.
- Record daily activities in an order tracking system (Archibus).
- Perform other duties as assigned and/or delegated to support all operations.
Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
- High school diploma or GED equivalency.
- Associate’s degree from an accredited institution preferred in HVAC or Engineering Technology.
- 2-4 years’ experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC and refrigeration equipment specializing in both heating and cooling hydronic systems.
- Experience in diagnosing and repair mechanical equipment associated with heating and cooling hydronic systems(piping, pumps, boilers, chillers and cooling towers).
- Experience in checking and recording the water chemistry in both open and closed loops to provide the proper balance required to maintain and protect the hydronic system.
- Effective interpersonal communication skills in both verbal and written needed for position.
- Computer skills needed with knowledge and experience with Google Chrome, Microsoft Suite, Google Suite and willingness to learn new programs.
- Ability to foster and create an atmosphere of teamwork.
- Operates assigned vehicles on and/or off campus and is required to possess, maintain, or obtain a valid driver’s license upon appointment to the position.
Necessary Licenses or Certifications
- Positions may be required to possess and maintain required certification, licensure, educational level, and/or experience criteria as applicable to the tasks being performed and follow applicable building codes.
- EPA 608 certification required for this position.
- Valid driver’s license required.
