Position Overview:
The Ortho Tech assists the nursing staff under the direction of a licensed nurse, supporting patient care while maintaining a clean and safe environment. This position involves delivering patient care in alignment with the Ortho Tech’s training and the department's needs. The Ortho Tech is responsible for maintaining effective communication, ethical decision-making, and patient safety, while ensuring the highest standards of care. Compensation is commensurate upon education, experience, certification, and internal equity. Hiring compensation range starts from $16.00/hour.

• Compensation is commensurate upon education & experience - range is $16.00/hour or more (depending on education & experience). Benefits begin the first of the month following 60 days of employment from the new hire orientation date. This position is a non-exempt position.

Key Responsibilities:
• Assist licensed nursing personnel in delivering patient care within the scope of the Ortho Tech's training.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized patient care environment.
• Document and communicate patient care information effectively to team members.
• Demonstrate compassion and respect for the dignity and individuality of patients.
• Follow department policies, procedures, and ethical standards in all areas of practice.
• Participate in maintaining quality patient outcomes and safety.
• Collaborate effectively with coworkers, physicians, leadership, and volunteers to create a healthy work environment.
Position Requirements:
Minimum Education:
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
Experience:
• Previous healthcare experience is preferred.
Required Registration/License/Certification:
• Current certification as a certified nursing assistant.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association is required at the time of hire.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Knowledge of and ability to work within the scope of the Ortho Tech as a dependent provider.
• Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with patients, families, staff, and physicians.
• Competent in delivering safe and effective patient care within limits of certification and hospital policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of the continuum of care provided.
• Ability to demonstrate exceptional customer service to patients, families, staff, and physicians.
• Computer skills including data entry and familiarity with the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
Physical Demands:
• Must be able to lift, position, and transfer up to and greater than 50 pounds.
• Requires manual dexterity, mobility, and the ability to bend, squat, twist, and turn.
• Prolonged sitting, standing, or walking may be required.
• Near acuity: Ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less.
Working Conditions:
• Regular exposure to the risk of blood-borne diseases.
• Frequently exposed to hazards from electrical/mechanical equipment, chemicals, and bodily fluids.
• Subject to irregular hours (days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays) and emergency situations.
• Continuous standing and walking for periods greater than 8 hours per shift.
• May be required to sit for extended periods greater than 4 hours.
