What are the responsibilities and job description for the Surgical Services Nurse Educator and Quality Coordinator position at UNC Health Southeastern?
POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides educational opportunities to Perioperative RN’s, other clinical staff, and ancillary support staff within Surgical Services by scheduling appropriate in-services, providing presentations, teaching the AORN Perioperative Program 101, and developing an annual education plan for all staff. Is an expert clinical resource to others, and builds and implements practices based on nationally recognized standards of care using evidence-based practices to implement best practices. Represents Surgical Services as a member of the Infection Control Committee, and Risk/Quality Committee. Writes policies and procedures to manage the care of the surgical patient; initiates and participates in quality initiatives to improve care of the patient. Identifies changes needed to improve the patient experience and develops plans to meet organizational goals. Reviews and investigates risks to the patient and makes recommendations to improve patient safety. Implements and monitors patient care initiatives. Generates reports relevant to the operations of the department. Provides unit orientation to new staff, monitors the development and competencies of all staff. Tracks departmental compliance with house-wide mandatory requirements. Demonstrates exemplary professionalism and customer service skills.
EDUCATION, CREDENTIALS, TRAINING and EXPERIENCE:
Minimum Required: Graduate of state accredited nursing program with a current North Carolina license as a Register Nurse. BLS required, MSN or 10 years OR experience. CNOR required.
Preferred: CNS preferred.ACLS preferred.
ADDITIONAL SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
Good organizational abilities, oral communications and interpersonal skills are needed. Ability to operate and communicate effectively is essential. A team player that can effectively work with the Perioperative team and others as well as participate on project teams as needed. Must have excellent, proficient computer skills with a strong knowledge of Microsoft applications. Must be knowledgeable of AORN standards and recommended practices. Experience in driving quality initiatives and assessing patient risks. Must have experience in electronic documentation.
