JOB DESCRIPTION :
Plant Operator II position is responsible for technical and manual work in controlling the operation of the wastewater treatment plant and pump stations. This position operates the treatment facilities to control flow and processing of wastewater, sludge and effluent. Monitors gauges, meters and control panels. Cleans and or paints plant equipment. Observes variations in operating conditions and interprets meter and gauge readings, test results and visual observations to determine process requirements. Operates valves and gates either manually or by remote control; starts and stops pumps and other equipment to control and adjust flow and treatment process. Operates fork trucks, vactor / sucker trucks, as needed for process control or maintenance activities at treatment plants. Maintain shift log and records meter readings. Collects samples and performs routine operational tests and analyses. Uses software for work orders and documentation, track history, parts and costs for each work order. Monitors and reports chemical levels and quantities for re-order purposes. Performs routine maintenance, preventative maintenance, and custodial duties. Coordinates and preventive and proactive maintenance activities with Maintenance Department under the direction of management and according to a specific schedule. Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS :
High School diploma or GED; two or more years of relevant experience operating a wastewater treatment facility required; or any equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job listed above. Must have a valid Kansas Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with necessary endorsements; or the ability to obtain one within 6 months of hire date. Current Class I KDHE operations certification.
Salary Range : 29.26 / hr.
