What are the responsibilities and job description for the Specimen Processor position at Unified Women's Healthcare?
UWH of Texas Laboratory is currently seeking a Specimen Processor - Accessioning to work with cytology, histology, and molecular microbiology specimens. Experience in in medical terminology and data entry is preferable.
Please note, the hours for this position are: Monday - Friday, 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM.
The Specimen Processor - Accessioning will perform various support activities for laboratory technical staff including specimen receipt and triage, ordering and stocking of materials, cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining laboratory workspace.
Responsibilities
- Receive and process specimens consistent with specimen requirements for testing including positive patient identification, appropriate specimen collection container and specimen transport requirements.
- Identify and accurately label specimens and distribute them to the appropriate testing area
- Perform clerical and administrative duties
- Organize and monitor lab supplies for appropriate inventory levels as directed by laboratory leadership
- Communicate specimen non-conformities to technical staff and/or laboratory leadership
- Clean and maintain work area and all lab equipment and supplies
- Follow all health and safety regulations when handling laboratory specimens
- Comply with chemical hygiene and/or laboratory safety procedures
- Comply with all lab procedures, processes, and methodologies
- Assists all technical laboratory staff and leadership with additional duties as needed.
Qualifications
- High school degree or equivalent; strong data entry skills.
- Experience in in medical terminology and data entry is preferable.
- 2 years’ experience as a lab assistant, specimen processor, or relevant experience in a lab is preferred
