JOB SUMMARY
Under general supervision, performs a variety of technical and clerical tasks in assisting a teacher in providing direct and indirect services to students with disabilities as assigned. Employee provides one-on-one assistance with academics and behavioral problems, and may lead small group activities. Employee assists teacher with general housekeeping and clerical duties. An EC Teacher Assistant job is to assist a teacher and reinforce the instruction taught in the classroom to students. This can include going over lessons with students individually, answering questions or grading assignments. A teacher assistant may be asked to supervise the students outside of the classroom on the playground, during bathroom breaks, at lunch time and on field trips.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Provide teacher directed instruction to individual or small groups of students with disabilities.
2. Participate in training and complete the following duties as required for individual students with disabilities: assisting with transfers of physically impaired students from wheelchair to toilet, desk, etc. and back, changing diapers or soiled clothing, toileting assistance and assist with implementation of modifications and accommodations on student Individual Education Programs (IEPS).
3. Provides non-instructional support to classroom teacher in performing duties, such as but not limited to snack, lunch, bulletin boards, and other tasks as assigned.
4. Participate in training and implement learned skills in the use of assistive technology and other educational devices.
5. Supervises students to provide academic support and enforce school rules and discipline in settings including small group, whole group and one-on-one.
6. Effectively communicates in both oral and written forms to students, teachers, staff and administrators.
7. Serves as a positive role model for students in attitude, actions, speech and dress.
8. Administers in assistance to the classroom teacher, by way of example, in reading, storytelling, calendar and other appropriate activities.
9. Performs clerical duties to assist in the delivery or instructional materials as well as support the achievement of the classroom.
10. Prepare notes, reports, data collection information when working with students separate from the teacher and/or therapist to keep them advised of student performance.
11. Provides assistance to individual children in need of special attention.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Guides student independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work assigned by the classroom teacher.
2. Feeds students, when necessary; toilets students, if needed; and assists with any other tasks students are not able to perform for themselves.
3. Observes student performance and assists students in correcting seat work as it is being done. 4. Escorts and supervises students to locations while transitioning throughout the school day.
5. Works with small groups of students to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher.
6. Models good housekeeping skills and regard for the environment both inside and outside of the classroom to students.
7. Effectively utilizes equipment, technology and/or tools to perform job tasks.
8. Assists small groups of students in the library, art class, computer lab etc.
9. Actively participates in school meetings and in-service activities as directed.
10. Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with staff, administrators and parents. 11. Performs such other tasks and assumes responsibilities as may be assigned by the classroom teacher or school administrator
Minimum Qualifications
- Must meet Highly Qualified standards for paraprofessionals
- Associate’s Degree Or a minimum 48 hours of college credit at a institute of higher learning
- Or verified HQ status from another source such as Workkeys Occupational Profile Assessment for Teacher Assistants
- Paraprofessional Praxis Test and/or Paraprofessional Certification (awarded by another state)
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $26,000.00 - $35,000.00 per year
