Union County Parks and Recreation is currently seeking a student intern for the Summer Season which runs from June to August. We are seeking motivated individuals with the ability to self-start. Students wishing to gain experience in outdoor recreation, recreation management, programming, and networking and marketing are encouraged to apply.

Our department is centered around Cane Creek Park, located in Waxhaw, North Carolina. Our 350 acre lake is surrounded by 1,050 acres of land. The selected candidate will be:
- Interacting with the general public at park locations, event appearances, programs, and summer camp sessions.
- Organizing, implementing and evaluating public programs, environmental education opportunities and large events/festivals.
- Assisting in the daily operations of Summer Camp.
- Assisting the Ranger Staff in daily operations of the parks.
- Experiencing all Union County Parks and Recreation job avenues and understanding the importance of each - From Administration to front line staff.
- Interacting with customers, handle suggestions, solve problems and work with staff to ensure our guests have a positive overall experience.
- Learning about Union County Government and its' logistics.
- Performing related tasks as required.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent and one (1) to two (2) years of college coursework in Recreation/Business Management, Leadership Studies, Environmental Sciences, Forestry, or Event Management; and experience working with the general public including children and public speaking.
Licenses or Certifications:
Must have a valid Driver's License and be able to maintain a safe driving history as defined by the Union County Vehicle Use Policy.
First Aid and CPR preferred.
Special Requirements:

Special Requirements:
- Requires varying work hours to include weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
- Proficient in Microsoft computer programs including Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, PowerPoint, E-mail, internet, and standard office equipment and systems.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment and machinery including cash registers, calculators, snack bar equipment, radios, blowers, computers, vehicles etc. Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle. Must be able to exert a moderate amount of force constantly, and up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, to move objects. Moderate work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree. However, if the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Moderate Work.WORK ENVIRONMENT
