JOB DESCRIPTION
The Maintenance Technician performs a variety of tasks related to the repair, maintenance, and upkeep of all UGMTC buildings, facility systems and equipment. These duties may be performed individually or collectively as part of a team.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs minor repairs of UGMTC buildings, facility systems and equipment; supports major repair issues under the supervision of the Maintenance Coordinator Technician, Facilities Director or a licensed professional.
- Performs preventative maintenance procedures on a routine scheduled basis.
- Works with the maintenance team to ensure work orders are completed in a timely and efficient manner.
- Identifies and documents facility repair and maintenance requirements; maintains appropriate records of work performed.
- Provides observations and suggestions to the maintenance team to improve the condition of organizational facilities; suggests improvement to maintenance processes and procedures.
- Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
- Provides excellent customer service to and interacts calmly and reasonably with staff and clients, in a professional manner to solve issues.
- Provides general support including but not limited to painting, basic construction, snow removal, custodial duties and trash removal.
- Provides general support including, but not limited to, painting, basic construction, snow removal and sidewalk salting.
- Reports any immediate safety hazards and threats to security.
- Maintains co-operative relationships and communication with other departments to ensure access and positive experiences for UGMTC residents and support achievement of program objectives.
- At any time, with or without notice, performs other duties and activities as assigned.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or GED or equivalent work experience
- Prior work experience in facilities or construction maintenance
- Valid Driver’s license and excellent driving record
QUALIFICATIONS & CERTIFICATIONS
- Team orientation; able to work effectively with staff in the coordination of maintenance and facility priorities.
- Ability to repair and maintain a variety of appliances and building systems.
- Knowledge of one or more of the following areas highly preferred: heating/cooling, ventilation, plumbing, electrical and water treatment systems
- Familiar with and able to use hand and power tools, as needed.
- Ability to work calmly and remain professional in a sometimes-stressful environment.
- Possesses interpersonal and communication skills necessary to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies, in a culturally diverse community.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and frequently change priorities.
- Exceptional judgment, self-control, and professional boundaries.
- Ability to read, understand and follow safety procedures.
- Proficiency in the operation of Microsoft Office software.
- Adaptability to look at new and different ways to perform a task.

WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL EFFORT:
- Work is performed in an emergency shelter / transitional housing environment.
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and work outdoors in inclement weather conditions.
- Work requires pushing, pulling, reaching, crouching, stooping, walking, twisting, carrying, climbing ladder, and other physical activities
- Work involves physical effort encountered in normal, everyday office activities.
- Work is performed in an environment that may cause encounters with men and women in various states of dress.
