POSITION TITLE: Advancement Specialist
REPORTS TO: Communications Director
SUPERVISES: N/A
LOCATION: 3 NW Third Ave Portland, OR 97209/hybrid remote
STATUS: Full-time, requires some morning, evening, and weekend meetings
WAGE: $50,000-55,000 annually plus benefits
OVERALL POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Union Gospel Mission Advancement Specialist (AS) works as part of the Advancement Team to engage potential, new, and existing donors, and develop new and enhance existing pathways for donor growth. The AS will have a particular focus on highly personalized approaches that use responsive donor journeys and high-touch outreach to engage and lift the giving of donors currently giving under $2,500 a year. This role will work closely with the Director of Advancement (DA), Director of Communications (DC), and other Advancement Officers to cultivate and steward new and existing donors.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Work with the DA and DC to use data, best practices, and team collaboration to develop comprehensive strategies to increase the engagement of new and existing donors (individuals, churches, and businesses), with a particular focus on those currently giving under $2,500 annually.
- Work with the data management team to ensure prospect research and donor qualification processes are in place and being effectively executed.
- Be the point of first personal contact for new donors and their guide in their early journey of increased engagement with UGM.
- Use responsive donor journeys and personalized donor outreach to engage and lift the giving of donors currently giving under $2,500.
- Work with the DC to grow Heart of Hope – our monthly donor program.
- Work with the Advancement Team to plan and execute engagement events and opportunities for individuals, churches, and business, with a particular focus on the next steps for participating donors.
- Develop high level competence in our Donor CRM System and produce reports with appropriate analysis related to job function monthly and as needed by the DA and DC.
- Other duties as assigned by the Communications Director
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
- High level confidence with learning and using new technology systems required.
- Previous employment in the non-profit sector preferred.
- Experience in a full-cycle development department preferred.
- Strong written, oral, and conversational communication skills required.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Including Excel) required.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
- A criminal history and background check are required and must be successfully completed
- Ability to effectively handle multiple tasks as assigned
- Ability to walk up and down steps

Character: Strong commitment to the vision and values of Union Gospel Mission, have a passion for the gospel, and a desire to serve the homeless, broken, and addicted. Must be a follower of Jesus Christ and actively involved in a local Christian church. Must adhere to UGM’s statement of faith and standards of conduct.
