The Sunbury YMCA is seeking a CORE SUSQUEHANNA AmeriCorps Member to serve an Early Childhood Development Support Member for a 450-hour summer term beginning in May.
About the Role
In this role, you’ll support young children (ages 6 weeks to 6 years) in reaching key developmental milestones in both social and academic growth. As an AmeriCorps Early Childhood Development Support Member at the Lewisburg YMCA, you’ll work closely with YMCA staff to create a nurturing and engaging environment that fosters confidence, independence, and a lifelong love of learning.

Service Term
May 12th 2025 – August 2nd 2025, 450-hours over 12 weeks
Description of Duties
- Support preschool-aged children in reaching social, emotional, cognitive, and motor development milestones.
- Assist in implementing age-appropriate curriculum activities that encourage creativity, exploration, and problem-solving.
- Provide individual and small-group support to help children develop foundational academic skills, such as early literacy and numeracy.
- Foster an inclusive and supportive environment where children feel safe, valued, and confident in their abilities.
- Encourage positive social interactions and help children develop strong communication and self regulation skills.
- Collaborate with YMCA staff and families to reinforce learning and promote child development beyond the classroom.
- Serve as a role model by demonstrating patience, kindness, and enthusiasm in all interactions with children.
- Participate in YMCA and AmeriCorps training and professional development opportunities.
Schedule
Tentative schedule: Monday 9-5, Tuesday 8-4, Wednesday 9-5, Thursday 8-4, Friday 9-5, could vary week to week.
Minimum Qualifications
- 17 years of age (with parental permission) or older
- U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident
- High school diploma/GED
- Able to pass criminal background check
- Child abuse training
- Physical & TB test
Benefits
- Living Stipend - $5,294 (paid bi-weekly throughout the service term)
