Qualifications & Educational Requirements

The selected individual will have experience in the field of construction, project management, youth and family outreach, natural resources management, and the Union community. The Conservation Manager is an integral part of delivering the mission of the Union Sportsmen’s Alliance. - Demonstrated successful experience in project planning and execution.
- Demonstrated network of union professionals and a history of building successful collaborative relationships for project delivery
- Bachelor’s degree in project management, natural resource management, environmental sciences, or related field OR
- 4 years of construction management experience and proven track record will be considered in lieu of college degree.
- Experience identifying, formulating, procuring, and managing competitive grants and agreements.
- Ability to lead, organize and motivate large groups of project volunteers in organized labor, outside agencies and other conservation groups
- Ability to effectively collaborate with peers and employees and align organizational priorities and projects.
- Must possess exceptional organizational skills – including the ability to track projects, programs and to analyze, create and present reports and media information.
- Superior interpersonal communication skills are essential.
- Ability to complete deliverables and interact successfully with minimal oversight.
- Provide pertinent information both verbally and in written form for public relations aspects and promotion of conservation programs.
- Excellent time management skills
- Ability to travel frequently, including weekends (up to 100 days). This job requires frequent travel.
- Valid Driver’s License and dependable transportation required.
Job Description & Physical Demands
The Conservation Manager oversees all aspects of the organization’s conservation programs, including but not limited to identifying, organizing, and executing conservation projects, and participating in fundraising events. This position requires on-site supervision of projects at locations across the country. In addition to managing conservation project deliverables and outreach programs, this position will need to constantly develop and evolve pertinent programs, fundraising campaigns, funding sources, program policies and infrastructure, partnership development, and volunteer recruitment and retention programs.
General Role and Responsibilities
- Oversight and management of the USA’s Work Boots on the ground program including but not limited to outreach and infrastructure projects and dedication events.
- Responsible for the development and maintenance of relationships with reginal and national union leadership, key volunteers, government agencies, NGO’s, and other likeminded organizations.
- Responsible for reviewing and evaluating proposed projects to determine value to USA, its members, and partners.
- Development and oversight of conservation processes including project planning, execution, data entry program and project/event budgets.
- Creation and tracking of conservation activities in USA’s database program, Salesforce.
- Manage the procurement of conservation materials, including building supplies and equipment.
- Identify, motivate and organize project volunteers.
- Attendance when needed or required at site visits, volunteer workdays, dedications, outreach events.
- Management of the tracking of VIK received towards entire program.
- Ensure conservation program events are completed within scope, with satisfactory quality, on time, and on budget.
- Complete/assist with grant writing and project/partnership MOU’s.
- Creation/review of conservation-based press releases, workday/event flyers, banners, plaques, signage, and other media - board book contributions and partnership pieces.
- Implementation and management of USA Volunteer Incentive Program and other volunteer-based programs.
- Development and purchase of promotional materials for USA’s conservation department: Volunteer t-shirts, incentives, drawstring bags, etc.
- Management of USA’s United Outdoors Conservation Fund program - receive, evaluate, and approve grant applications.
- Successful communication and coordination with other internal departments to fulfill needs of projects, events, and delivery of joint organizational objectives.
- Attendance when needed or required at key events including shoots, dinners, gala, and conferences/conventions. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Conservation or the Executive Director and CEO.
- Participate and support in organizational revenue opportunities supporting the USA as a whole.
- Effectively plan and manage a heavy travel schedule to oversee projects/events, support USA events, and build relationships with USA endemic partners, and international union leadership. This job requires frequent travel.
- Supervise Conservation Coordinator(s) day to day operations and travel.
Physical Demands
Working conditions are a combination of office and outdoor environment. This position may require you to sit or stand for most of the workday. Must be willing and able to drive or fly for extended periods. Must be able to safely lift 50-75 lbs and participate in the loading and unloading of equipment. This job requires frequent travel.
