Job Summary:  

As the Elementary School Principal, you will be responsible for the overall leadership, management, and administration of the District’s Elementary School serving students in second (2nd) grade through fourth (4th) grade.  You will work closely with teachers, staff, students, parents, and other stakeholders to ensure a safe, nurturing, and enriching learning environment that supports the academic, social, and emotional development of all students.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  Other duties may be assigned.

 

Educational Leadership:

  • Uphold the State of Vermont Education Quality Standards (EQS) to ensure continuous improvement in student performance, instruction, and leadership enabling students to attain rigorous standards in high-quality programs.
  • Delivery of quality instruction ensuring educational strategies are in place that support effective learning for all students.
  • Provide visionary leadership to create a positive school culture focused on academic excellence, equity, and student success.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve teaching and learning outcomes, aligned with educational standards and best practices.
  • Foster a collaborative professional learning community among staff to promote continuous improvement.
  • Administrative Management:
    • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the school, including budgeting, scheduling, staffing, and resource allocation.
    • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations governing education, safety, and student welfare.
    • Maintain accurate records and collect a variety of data for reports related to student enrollment, attendance, academic performance, and quality initiatives.
  • Staff Supervision and Development:
    • Recruit, hire, train, and evaluate teaching and support staff to maintain high standards of performance and professionalism.
    • Provide ongoing support, coaching, and professional development opportunities to enhance staff effectiveness and job satisfaction.
    • Foster a culture of collaboration, teamwork, and shared responsibility among all school personnel.
  • Student Support and Discipline:
    • Implement proactive strategies to promote positive behavior and prevent disciplinary issues.
    • Address student behavioral and academic concerns promptly and effectively, in collaboration with teachers, counselors, and parents.
    • Ensure that appropriate support services are available to meet the diverse needs of students, including those with disabilities or special needs.
  • Community Engagement:
    • Build strong partnerships with parents, guardians, and community organizations to support student learning and well-being.
    • Communicate regularly with stakeholders through newsletters, meetings, and other channels to keep them informed and involved in school activities.
    • Represent the school at community events and collaborate with external agencies to leverage resources and opportunities for students.

 

Supervision ReceivedReports to, receives work assignments from, and is evaluated by the Superintendent.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:  Supervises staff with elementary education designations.

 

Qualification Requirements:

  1. Education and ExperienceMaster’s degree in Education Administration or related field, with Vermont Administrative licensure endorsement.  Minimum of 5 years of experience in elementary education, including teaching and leadership roles.  Demonstrated knowledge of the unique developmental needs educational principles, curriculum development, and assessment practices.  Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills. This should include a strong understanding of the unique developmental needs of elementary students and the philosophy surrounding the establishment of a solid foundation of learning.  Ability to inspire and motivate others, build consensus, and lead change initiatives.  Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in education.  Proficiency in educational technology and data-driven decision-making.  Willingness to work flexible hours and assume additional responsibilities as needed.
  2. Language Skills:   Ability to read and write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
  3. Mathematical Skills: Good basic mathematical skills including the ability to calculate percentages, proportions, averages, and other concepts of basic algebra. 
  4. Reasoning Ability/Mental Requirements: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  5. Communication & Interpersonal Skills:  Ability to communicate courteously, efficiently and effectively with a variety of individuals, including students, faculty, administrators, parents, and representatives of outside organizations.  Ability to effectively resolve conflicts.

  • 6. Operating knowledge of and experience with typical office equipment, including: telephones, copier, scanner, printer, calculator, postage meter and fax machine is essential.
  • 7. Working knowledge of personal computer applications including Microsoft Office Windows Suite and Google Suite.
