Summary:
The Product Category Manager plays a crucial role in optimizing the company's product offerings including catalog and website. Monitoring product performance, as well as making strategic decisions about product inclusion or exclusion. This role requires an understanding of market trends, customer needs, and the ability to align the product portfolio with company objectives. This role is critical in ensuring that our product offerings remain competitive, relevant, and aligned with company goals. The Product Category Manager will work closely with the Procurement Manager to ensure great communication and coordination.
Key Responsibilities:
**Supplier Management**
- Identify, evaluate, new and select high-value suppliers that align with company objectives.
- Maintain and nurture relationships with existing suppliers on product offerings
**Portfolio Management**
- Analyze, evaluate and approve product requests from sales teams.
- Assess existing product offerings to identify gaps, redundancies, and opportunities.
- Make strategic decisions on product inclusion or exclusion in the catalog and website.
- Determine appropriate product sizes and variations for inclusion to keep our product offerings complete, well rounded and competitively priced.
**Catalog and Website Management**
- Ensure accuracy and relevance of product descriptions, pricing, SDS and specifications.
- Collaborate with marketing to optimize product presentation and user experience.
**Private Label and Brand Management**
- Develop and manage private label product lines.
- Oversee brand positioning and strategy for both private label and national brands.
- Evaluate opportunities for new private label products or brand partnerships.
**Product Analysis**
- Collaborate on regular performance reviews of existing products.
- Identify trends and patterns in product demand and sales.
- Evaluate complementary products and cross-selling opportunities.
**Strategic Planning**
- Develop and implement strategies to optimize the product portfolio, product groups and categories
- Collaborate with sales teams to understand market demands and customer needs.
- Make recommendations for new product lines or categories based on market analysis.
**Communication and Collaboration**
- Act as a liaison between sales, purchasing, and marketing departments.
- Provide regular updates to management on portfolio performance and strategy.
- Support and educate sales team on new products and portfolio changes.
- Coordinate product meetings for management review of new and suggested products
Qualifications and Skills:
- 5 years of experience in product management, supplier relations, or related roles.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and make strategic decisions.
- Excellent facilitation and negotiation skills.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools and inventory management systems.
- Experience with e-commerce platforms and catalog management preferred.
