Youth Engagement Specialist
Position Description
Under the supervision of the Youth Engagement Director, plan and execute socio-emotional skill building groups and pro-social experiential activities for middle and high school-aged youth related to outdoor, recreational, and/or creative interests, and connect them to community resources.
Characteristic duties of the Youth Engagement Specialist may include:
· Facilitate weekly conversational social/emotions skill building groups at designated area high schools.
· Implement program activities including groups and experiential learning activities.
· Collaborate with community partners to ensure successful implementation of programmatic activities and outcomes.
· Help participating teens actively work on social skills through social coaching and supportive redirection.
· Outreach to youth and families to connect them to UAY programming.
· Provide one-on-one support for youth, including crisis support, when necessary; use referral process to connect youth to other UAY teams (Therapy, Crisis, Advocacy and Mediation Program, RHY, etc.) when appropriate.
· Collect media (photos, narratives, videos) from participants for Development Team to utilize in storytelling and marketing.
· Build positive and nurturing relationships with program participants.
· Promote UAY’s mission through building relationships with community members, agency partners, and area school personnel.
Related Duties:
· Attend agency-wide staff meetings.
· Attend weekly team meetings.
· Collaborate and strategize with Youth Engagement Director.
· Complete Youth Development trainings as required.
· Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Minimum of 2 years of experience working with at-risk youth or in a similar role. Strong communication skills ability to plan and implement outdoor recreational activities. Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and external partners.
A Valid Driver’s License is required, with at least 5 years driving experience.
Compensation: This is a full-time position. The starting salary is $45,000. Benefits include health insurance flex spending, life/disability insurance, generous vacation package, wellness program and retirement.
