Our member grocery and other supportive programs ensure our community members have access to the resources, crisis care, case management, food and household subsidies and transformative education necessary to stabilize their current situations and permanently improve their lives for the future.

POSITION SUMMARY: United Against Poverty is launching a new workforce program called Build UP. The Build UP program will teach adults the necessary skills (basic construction math, working with hand and power tools, workplace safety) to secure employment in the construction, trades and manufacturing industries.

Over the course of 4 weeks of classroom learning, students and the Build UP Facilitator will be utilizing a curriculum from the Home Builders Institute (HBI) and working with hand and power tools in the classroom setting. As a Build UP Facilitator, you will demonstrate—through hands-on training and classroom instruction—proper technique, safety, and detail which are essential skills of polished trades professionals. Strong coaching skills and the determination to teach, inspire and lead future trades professionals are essential, as is a strong orientation to safety in the workplace.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING: Assists with student recruitment, placement, and employability training, as directed and/or as required by program needs.

Monitors, mentors, and coach’s students.

Fosters positive working relationships with and between program partners, employers, participants and United Against Poverty staff.

Participates in outreach and employer relationship development.

Developing and facilitating “Build-UP” program curriculum. Completing all intake processes, pre- and post-testing and evaluations necessary.

Working alongside other staff in outreach efforts, such as attending community events to distribute information regarding United Against Poverty programs.

Providing individualized assistance and skills training, on a case-by-case basis as needed with referrals to other programs as necessary.

Managing internal referral process from Intake department, scheduling and leading all orientations for Build UP classes.

Using HMIS for client tracking; ensuring timely input of all case management notes and evaluations necessary to track client progress per program requirements.

Generating all applicable reports as required to track program progress.

Performs various administrative and reporting functions, as required.

Ensures proper use, storage, and security of tools, equipment, etc. Adherence with all applicable safety protocols (OSHA 10).

Assisting with all other ad-hoc department projects as needed.

ESSENTIALS THAT WILL MAKE YOU SUCCESSFUL Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills. Ability to develop rapport with individuals dealing with many types of life situations. Self-motivated with initiative and the ability to work individually or as a team member. Ability to multi-task in fast-paced environment. Proficient data analysis skills and strong knowledge of Microsoft applications including Excel. Knowledge of FamCare software preferred. Positive attitude even in the face of adversity. Effective decision making and problem-solving skills are a must.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS High School Diploma or equivalent or A Journey-level trade person who has completed an apprenticeship program or has Journey-level experience in any of the following relevant trades; Carpentry, Electrical, Plumbing or HVAC. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.

PHYSICAL WORK REQUIREMENTS Must be able to sit for long periods of time and move frequently throughout the day. Will be exposed to members of the general public on a regular basis.

Pay: $50,000.00 per year
