General Purpose Of Position
The United Church of Christ seeks a Minister for Women & Gender Justice who will provide implementation, oversight, and coordination of Gender & Sexuality Justice Ministries’ education, advocacy, resources, spiritual care, and partnership building related to Women & Gender Justice issues. This includes bodily autonomy, reproductive justice, gender & sexual based violence, women’s equity, women’s leadership development, and ongoing emerging issues faced by domestic and international women and children. This role will also be responsible for supporting and expanding networks for women within the Conferences and local church settings by increasing collaboration between Conferences, the wider Church and partner organizations.
Essential Functions And Responsibilities
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required to perform successfully in this position.
The position is based in Cleveland and requires 3 days in the office.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and evaluate short-term and long-term strategic objectives and collaborate with other national ministry settings and organizations as needed and appropriate for Women & Gender Justice issues.
- Provide active leadership to the Womyn Working Group as requested by the Gender & Sexuality Justice Team Leader; implement and support strategic needs identified by the Womyn Working Group.
- Promote Women & Gender Justice and the UCC’s public image by responding in writing and orally on a timely basis to inquiries for information, providing consultation, accepting speaking engagements and serving as a resource person to the Church for Women & Gender Justice issues.
- Support and expand existing women’s groups within conferences and local church settings; collaborate with the Ministerial, Excellence, Support & Authorization Team (MESA) related to Antoinette Brown Society (ABS) and women’s leadership offerings for the wider church.
- Plan and facilitate programmatic offerings for Women & Gender Justice to ensure the UCC is offering a prophetic and proactive faith-based voice.
- Implement initiatives and offerings seeking to educate local churches on Women & Gender Justice online and by other means yearly.
- Provide and develop women’s leadership & training opportunities alongside National Ministry Settings, specifically MESA, and other organizations as appropriate.
- Hold quarterly meetings with the Women & Gender Justice Advisory Council.
- Work with the DC Policy & Advocacy office to advance policy initiatives involving Women’s rights. Collaborate with organizations and networks to discover opportunities for collaboration and ways Conferences might build on their work.
- Other needs as identified by Gender & Sexuality Justice Team Leader.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required to perform successfully in this position.
- Graduate degree in theology, gender studies, or equivalent related field.
- Thorough and working knowledge of the history, polity, and policy of the United Church of Christ.
- Thorough and working knowledge of women’s rights work, including the places of intersection and the places of distinction with race, class and sex as well as other issues.
- Good understanding of social media and web technology.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and demonstrated excellent people skills.
- Organizational and project management skills.
- Ability to take direction and follow through on commitments
- Self-starter and movement builder capable of collaborative growth
- Desire and sensitivity to working in diverse racial, ethnic, cultural and religious settings with commitment to diversity in the workplace as well as in one’s understanding of mission.
- Ability to travel within the United States, if necessary.
