What are the responsibilities and job description for the Material Handler position at United Cooperative?
Responsible for safely loading and unloading rail cars and trucks for incoming raw materials and outgoing finished products. Day shift from 6:00am-6:00pm 2-2-3 shifts.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Reads work order or follows oral instructions to ascertain materials or containers to be moved.
- Responsible for loading dry and wet distillers grain, ethanol, and corn oil onto trucks and railcars.
- Safely and efficiently operate equipment including but not limited to payload and Rail King.
- Assist with lawn care in summer and snow removal during winter months.
- Conveys materials from storage or work sites to designated area.
- Counts, weighs, and records number of units of materials moved or handled on daily production sheet.
- Removes samples of materials, labels with identifying information, and takes samples to laboratory for analysis.
- Lifts heavy objects by hand or with power hoist, and cleans work area, machines, and equipment to assist machine operators.
- Makes simple adjustments or repairs such as realigning belts or replacing rollers.
- Operate the scale house when needed.
- Understand and operate the Allen Bradley system.
- Assist maintenance and process teams with various duties.
- Participate in regularly scheduled housekeeping of the grains area.
- Receive all daily deliveries (denaturant, chemicals, and van trucks).
- Complete daily transfers in tank farm and provide samples to the lab.
- Responsible for keeping accurate DDG, corn, and ethanol inventories.
Qualifications:
- Must be safety minded and willing to learn.
- Good organizational skills and a strong work ethic is required.
- Must be able to take direction and work independently as the situation changes.
- Must have good oral and written communication skills, the ability to be a team player and the ability to work a variable schedule within a core set of hours.
- Class B CDL with a farm background preferred.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include peripheral vision and depth perception.
- The employee will be exposed to all weather conditions, heights, confined spaces (with training) and dust.
- Able to climb ladders and stairs
