POSITION: Design Engineer
COMPANY: United Equipment Accessories, Inc.
POSITION SUMMARY:
- Develop highly creative, innovative and groundbreaking designs to satisfy our customer’s motion application needs. Conceptualize, define, and design multiple projects, focusing on the early phase developmental projects utilizing conceptualization and alternative evaluation processes.
- Focus on engineering projects, facilitating the design through product integration, performing worst-case analysis, support building prototypes, initial testing and eventual hand off to manufacturing operations.
- Communicate directly with customers to define their need, develop designs that meet specifications, assist in providing quotations, and provide drawings, designs and presentations to aid in defining and understanding their needs. Perform analysis of design requirements, specifications and marketing inputs to determine design feasibility.
- Other projects and duties as assigned by the Slip Ring Engineering Supervisor.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
This position reports directly to the Slip Ring Engineering Supervisor, will work collaboratively with the entire engineering team and no positions report directly to the Design Engineer.
REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION - Bachelor’s Degree Mechanical Engineering or related discipline required.
EXPERIENCE - Minimum 5-7 years of experience in design engineering preferred, including development of new products. Previous experience in design and manufacture of motion applications is strongly desired.
SKILLS - Strong listening, written and oral communication skills are essential to effectively collect and disseminate information with customers, suppliers, and employees at all levels of the organization. Professionalism, time management, organization, and prioritization skills are critical competencies. Technology proficient with experience using Microsoft Office Suite and a manufacturing ERP system. The ability to work under time and budgetary pressures is also necessary.
PHYSICAL - Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, walk, talk, and hear (with mechanical assistance if necessary) sufficiently to understand and comprehend individual one-on-one conversations. Possess specific vision abilities including near vision, distance vision and ability to adjust focus (with corrective lenses if necessary) to perform the requirements of the position.
MENTAL - Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently and possess the ability to communicate clearly on technical and business levels while maintaining professional conduct is essential. The ability to handle high pressure, high demand situations and projects with financial impact is also critical.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The Design Engineer will primarily work in a plant office setting which is a temperature controlled, smoke free environment that also has typical factory hazards including noise, dust, cutting, drilling, solvents and blocked walkways and tripping hazards. United Equipment Accessories, Inc. functions in a real market environment that changes at various times of the year which occasionally may create high output or greater time pressure demands. This full-time position’s regular work schedule is 7:30 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday. The Design Engineer is an exempt position and completion of duties regardless of the number of hours or number of days worked per week is expected. Office hours will vary according to travel schedule and business demands.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND MEASUREMENTS OF PERFORMANCE:
- Consistently and successfully manage 3 – 7 projects in varying stages of development.
- Use UEA designated computer assisted design software to develop designs.
- Problem solve on a routine basis, dealing with a variety of variables in situations where limited standardization may exist. Interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
- Maintain compliance with engineering principles, company standards and external requirements or specifications when designing products.
- Manage technical development activities including scheduling and resolution of engineering design and test problems.
- Prepare interim and completion project reports, drawings or models.
- Complete documentation of the design and development process of products for ISO Quality compliance.
- Review drawings, designs, reports and technical data for accuracy and completeness and take corrective action if necessary.
- Follow rules and processes as outlined in the Employee Handbook, Quality Manual and Safety training regarding conduct and performance standards expected of all employees
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive and private information
- Consistently and effectively identify, manage and complete multiple responsibilities accurately, timely and within budget including communication and follow through on task information, status, and questions to the appropriate people
- Demonstrate collaborative working relationships, good judgment, reasoning and professional conduct in all business interactions, representing UEA favorably with employees, customers, and vendors
