Job Summary: The Innovation-Quality Technician at UEA is a hybrid role that bridges Innovation and Quality Assurance. This position is essential for supporting innovative product development, ensuring manufacturability, maintaining quality standards, and assisting with the evaluation of designs and processes. The ideal candidate will have a blend of technical assembly expertise and quality assurance experience, contributing to the continuous improvement of UEA's products and processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Innovation Responsibilities
Prototype Assembly:
- Assemble prototypes based on engineering designs, schematics, and technical drawings.
- Ensure high precision and quality in assembly processes.
Testing and Evaluation:
- Conduct functional tests on prototypes to ensure performance meets design specifications.
- Record, analyze, and report test results to the Innovation team.
Design Support:
- Collaborate with engineers to identify improvements in product design and manufacturability.
- Provide feedback on assembly processes to improve efficiency and product reliability.
Documentation:
- Maintain detailed records of assembly procedures and test results.
- Assist in creating and updating work instructions and technical documentation.
Tool and Equipment Maintenance:
- Operate and maintain tools and equipment used in the Innovation lab.
- Perform routine maintenance and ensure the lab is well-organized and functional.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Work closely with production, quality, and engineering teams to ensure a smooth transition of products from prototype to production.
- Support troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for assembly or design-related issues.
Quality Responsibilities
Quality Control and Assurance:
- Conduct inspections and audits on parts, assemblies, and products to ensure they meet quality standards.
- Identify and document non-conformances, assisting in root cause analysis and corrective actions.
Process Improvement:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement process improvements.
- Support Lean and Six Sigma initiatives to enhance efficiency and product quality.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of quality inspections, test results, and prototype builds.
- Assist in the creation and revision of standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and quality documentation.
General Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain testing and assembly equipment, ensuring a safe and organized workspace.
- Act as a liaison between the Innovation and Quality teams to ensure seamless communication and project alignment.
- Support Return Material Authorization (RMA) evaluations to identify product or process issues.
Requirements
Education:
- Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
Experience:
- 3 years of assembly
- Hands-on experience with mechanical and/or electrical assembly, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 systems is preferred.
Skills:
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and work instructions.
- Knowledge of quality inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers, and CMMs.
- Basic understanding of Lean manufacturing principles and root cause analysis tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook). Experience with CAD software is a plus.
