SUMMARY:
This position shall be responsible for leading and training of the Purchased Referred Care staff. The Purchased Referred Care Specialist will actively work with the Purchased Referred Care staff to provide continuity of services to United Indian Health Services (UIHS) clients with eligibility for Purchased Referred Care.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned
Level 1:
- Under direction of the Purchased Referred Care Manager the Purchased Referred Care Specialist directs the day-to-day operations of the Purchased Referred Care staff.
- Oversees and maintains continuity of the Purchased Referred Care/Referral process and coordinates all updates with Purchased Referred Care staff.
- Demonstrates excellent customer service skills.
- Attends organizational committee meetings and other meetings as assigned.
- Ensures clients meet eligibility for services at United Indian Health Services and Outside providers.
- Coordinates and utilizes an effective system of communication throughout UIHS and with outside providers.
- Establishes and maintains constructive working relationships with clients and all levels of employees.
- Maintains a professional, organized, and clean working environment by following organizational policies, guidelines, and safety standards.
- Adheres to accreditation and compliance standards/guidelines.
- Attends training appropriate for maintaining up-to-date knowledge of required skills and based on these trainings shares relevant information with the Purchased Referred staff.
- Operates various office equipment including photocopiers, calculator, fax machine, computer, printer, and any other office equipment to perform tasks as needed.
- Performs all duties in accordance with UIHS Mission, Vision, and Guiding Principles.
- Must be willing to learn more about American Indian/Alaska Native culture and attend at least one (1) Cultural Presentation/Training per year.
- Must be willing to work with American Indian/Alaska Native people and be sensitive to their culture.
IF NEEDED, THE PURCHASED REFERRED CARE SPECIALIST MAY:
- Maintain appropriate files and documents.
- Prepare monthly reports and Close the Purchased Referred Care register monthly.
Level 2 – In addition to the above-mentioned duties
- Must meet or exceed all level one (1) criteria and have over six (6) years’ experience.
- Must be able to run and maintain required Monthly Reports and report results to Purchased Referred Care Manager.
- Must have the ability to train all Purchased Referred Care Technicians in all required fields.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Purchased Referred Care Specialist is the team lead for the Purchased Referred Care Technicians.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Educational degrees must be from a US Department of Education accredited school
Level I
- Must have High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Must have four (4) or more years of current related experience and/or training working in health Care.
- Must have the ability to successfully lead the Purchased Referred Care team under the direction of the Purchased Referred Care Manager.
- Must have excellent customer service skills and have the ability to perform all the duties of the position.
- Must have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Experience in a health care setting required.
Level II
- Must meet or exceed all Level I Criteria.
- Must have six (6) years’ experience.
COMPUTER OPERATIONS
- Intermediate personal computer skills, including electronic mail, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
- Must be able to type forty-five words per minute (45 WPM).
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.
