Summary
United Orthodox Synagogues (UOS) seeks an experienced individual for the role of Engagement Director. Reporting to the Executive Director, this position is pivotal in shaping the overall member experience, from initial inquiry to full engagement, encompassing lifecycle events, sponsorships/fundraising, and community outreach. The Engagement Director manages the event rental process with an emphasis on handling all event rental inquiries, tours, meetings, and events with excellence and customer service while maintaining synagogue processes. The Engagement Director collaborates closely with lay leaders and volunteers to coordinate events, manage the programming calendar, and communications.
Responsibilities
Membership Recruitment and Revenue Generation:
- Develop and implement strategies to recruit, engage, and retain members.
- Respond to membership inquiries, introduce potential members to lay and professional leadership, and manage membership applications.
- Coordinate membership renewal, High Holy Day seating, and dues payment assistance processes.
- Maintain membership database integrity and manage member information in ShulCloud.
- Implement the system of locker rentals, and venue rentals in coordination with the Treasurer, Executive Director, and VP House and Grounds.
- Develop a system to recruit sponsorships of synagogue programs (including but not limited to: Weekly kiddush, breakfasts, podcasts, events, and more.)
- Collaborate with lay leaders on fundraising initiatives, including annual appeals/fundraisers and special events.
Community Engagement:
- Liaise with staff, clergy, and lay leadership to ensure effective communication and hospitality.
- Coordinate synagogue programming, manage the programming calendar, and oversee event logistics in collaboration with lay and professional staff.
Communications and Administrative Support:
- Manage digital and print communications, including website updates, social media, and newsletters.
- Work with lay leadership to produce marketing materials for events and member engagement.
- Ensure effective communication of upcoming events and programming to congregants.
- Assist in budget preparation related to membership and programming revenue.
- Answer the phone, tour prospective event rental clients, and act as the “face” of UOS.
- Participate in strategic planning and innovation projects as part of the leadership team.
