CNC DEPARTMENT LEAD
Job Title: CNC Department Lead| Department: Production | Reports to: Production Manager | FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

JOB SUMMARY:
The CNC Department Lead will coordinate daily operations in the machining area, including personnel activities, adherence to schedules, ensuring safety protocols, and resolving production problems in the department. This position will also perform production machining duties as needed and oversee the tooling and supplies needed to support production operations. Candidate must be able to inspect your parts using micrometers, height gages, gage pins, comparators, and other standard inspection tools. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership abilities, preferably combined with formal supervisory education and experience in a lead role. Leading by example comes naturally to you.
Qualifications
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Program, set up, and run various machines in a high-mix workflow
- Create tooling and process setup sheets for the new part introduction
- Review quality concerns from piece part inspection and correct processes accordingly
- Train and motivate new and current machinists in best practices
- Scheduling and prioritization of projects in the shop with adaptability to changes in a dynamic engineering environment
- Maintain shop equipment as required per PM schedule
- Take the lead on shop improvement projects
- Use shop measurement equipment, calipers, micrometers, and comparators
- CNC Lathe and Mill set up
- Manual machining experience
- Troubleshooting machinability issues on difficult-to-machine materials
WHAT YOU BRING TO UPC:
- Strong knowledge of programming and setup of CNC Lathes and Mills
- Ability to take part from set up to first article with minimal assistance
- Ability to monitor and provide feedback to operators by performing in-process inspections
- Must have a solid grasp of blueprints, shop drawings, schematics, Travelers, and other drawing documents
- Ability to work efficiently, effectively independently, and as a team with minimal supervision
Required
- High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 5 years of machining experience, with one year in supervision
- CAM programming and Fusion360 experience
- Strong shop math
Preferred
- SAP Experience
- Experience with AS9100 and ISO9001
- Experience with ITAR Compliance
- 3 or more years of relevant manufacturing industry experience

- Must be able to remain stationary 50% of the time.
- Must operate a computer and other office productivity machinery such as calculators, copy machines, and printers.

- Occasionally positions self to maintain manufacturing and engineering machinery, including under workstations.
- Frequently move raw and treated materials weighing up to 50 pounds across the manufacturing facility for various purposes, as needed.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is generally performed in an office/warehouse environment with frequent interruptions and irregularities in the work schedule. No special coordination beyond those used for normal mobility, handling of everyday objects and materials, and using office equipment is necessary to perform the job satisfactorily.
