Position Description
The Director of Strategic Finance and Treasury will oversee financial planning and analysis, cash management, and strategic treasury initiatives to support the organization's financial health and long-term sustainability. This position plays a critical role in enhancing financial processes, developing forecasting models, and providing insights that drive strategic decision-making. The ideal candidate will be a strong leader, possess exceptional analytical and communication skills, and have a proven track record in corporate finance and treasury management.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Financial Planning & Analysis
- Cash Flow Forecasting:
- Develop and manage short- and long-term cash flow forecasts to ensure liquidity and financial stability.
- Develop Internal monthly cash flow forecasts
- Develop quarterly cash flow forecast for Board Reporting
- Capture impacts of fundraising pledges vs cash and obligations to specific programs
- Long-Term Financial Modeling: Own the federation’s long-term financial model, integrating both accrual-based and cash-based frameworks, with business drivers and assumptions tailored to organizational goals.
2. Reporting & Analysis
- Monthly Reporting Package Revamp: Own monthly financial reporting process, enhancing clarity and actionable insights; transition the reporting process to Power BI for scalability.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth transfer of reporting ownership, enabling junior team members to take on expanded responsibilities over time.
- Responsible for Tax Exempt Bond Reporting requirements including monthly, quarterly, annual reporting requirements
3. Treasury Management
- Establish weekly Treasury updates for CFO inclusive of cash balances, in/out flows, interest earnings, and cash flow risks
- Endowment Fund Setup: Lead the establishment and management of an endowment fund, ensuring alignment with the organization’s strategic objectives.
- Oversee cash management processes and implement strategies to optimize working capital.
- Address legacy processes, including check escheatment, by leveraging improved data quality to ensure compliance and efficiency.
- Manage relationships with key banking and treasury stakeholders.
- Serve as liaison for Investment Committee of the Board and assist with Committee presentation decks
4. Budget Ownership & Expense Management
- Serve as the primary finance business partner for certain business units as assigned, ensuring accurate tracking, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Partner with procurement functions to identify cost-saving opportunities, mitigate potential overlaps in operating and capital expenditures, and enhance budgetary efficiency.
- Analyze and recommend initiatives to improve procurement practices, aligning them with operational goals and financial constraints.
Requirements
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field; MBA or CPA preferred.
- 7 years of experience in FP&A, treasury, or corporate finance, with demonstrated success in financial modeling and cash management.
- Proficiency in financial systems and reporting tools; experience with Power BI is a plus.
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing cross-functional teams and mentoring junior staff.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication abilities.
- Prior experience working at either a non-for-profit, sporting organization, or consulting firm.
