What are the responsibilities and job description for the Academic Advisor position at United States Sports Academy?
The Academic Advisor’s primary tasks are to assist undergraduate and graduate students with selecting appropriate courses throughout their degree program, succeeding in those courses, and graduating in a timely manner. As a developmental, proactive, student-focused officer, the Academic Advisor will assist students with academic and professional goal setting, time management, resource referral, understanding transfer credit and program requirements, and understanding USSU’s academic policies. The Academic Advisor will provide student-centered advising that is both proactive and developmental in nature, with the intention of increasing student engagement, retention, and graduation rates. This position requires an organized, relational professional that uses multiple forms of communication to provide excellent service.
1. Provide approximately 350 graduate and undergraduate students with detailed and timely information concerning transfer credit and program requirements.
2. Facilitate student success through collaborative goal setting, time management planning, resource referral, and ongoing advising support.
3. Relay advised courses and important dates (e.g., registration dates, payment deadlines, course start & end dates) to students.
4. Obtain all necessary data/reports to holistically assess and respond to students’ advising needs.
5. Provide onboarding to incoming graduate and undergraduate students.
6. Collaborate with other faculty and staff members to identify at-risk students and to develop and implement intervention strategies to improve student success as measured by successful course completion, retention, and graduation rates.
7. Provide academic advising for approximately 120 student-athletes to ensure they meet academic and athletic eligibility requirements.
8. Contribute to university committees, events, and projects to support engagement, retention, and advising efforts.
9. Engage in professional development activities, including membership in professional organizations, consumption of field-relevant publications, attendance at conferences and webinars, and other networking opportunities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree and a minimum of two years of relevant experience. Excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Familiarity with and ability to navigate Microsoft 365 Products (e.g., Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Learning Management Systems (LMS; e.g., Canvas) and Student Information Systems (SIS; e.g., Campus Café).
- Knowledge and understanding of theories related to both learning and advising and how they apply to student advising and success.
- Ability to learn quickly, train and understand academic scheduling.
- High level people skills with the desire to partner with faculty and staff.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $45,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
