What are the responsibilities and job description for the Truck/Trailer Fleet Mechanic position at United Supermarkets, LLC?
The Truck/Trailer Fleet Mechanic is responsible for repairing and maintaining any owned power equipment to include: tractor, trailer, refrigerated trailer cooling unit, APU, etc. He/She will perform basic shop maintenance to include welding, electrical repairs, etc. as needed. He/She will provide a safe, defect-free vehicle to the operator.

- Perform preventive maintenance routine and make all required repairs
- Make determinations as to safe operation, and repairs of, based on knowledge and training
- Schedule daily maintenance work
- Follow preventative maintenance programs on all machines and equipment
- Review pre-trip and post-trip inspection forms for immediate maintenance requirements
- Ensure all maintenance work performed both internally and externally is performed to company standards
- Monitor vehicle condition and performance to ensure driver compliance of company driving policies
- Manage parts inventory at the most economic level for efficient operation of the system
- Maintain a clean, neat and orderly work area
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 1-2 years’ experience in fleet or commercial maintenance shop environment
- Experience repairing trailers and reefers experience repairing semi-trucks, power units, truck engines, truck systems
- Ability to work specified shift (day or night, weekends, holidays)
- Ability to work for the set wage amount
- Ability to follow work procedures, legal guidelines and safety rules
- Ability to read, understand, and follow directions/instructions
- Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures for repairing tractors, trailers, refrigeration units, APU’s, etc
- Ability to lift and move heavy equipment, parts, supplies repeatedly throughout the duration of the shift
- Have appropriate eye, hand and foot coordination to properly use various equipment and/or tools
- Provide own basic hand tools necessary for role
- Basic computer skills to include keyboard, diagnostic lap top PC, email
- Ability to work in a shop environment that may involve multiple mechanics in a single bay
- Participate in a team environment at times and work without direct supervision at times
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, crouch, stoop, reach, stretch, step, climb and work on knees frequently or through the duration of the shift
- Ability to load/unload, lift or move equipment/product which may weigh up to 100 pounds
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally, and in writing, with vendors, drivers, technicians, other mechanics and management
- Current CDL holder or physically and legally able to acquire a CDL preferred
- Industry certification i.e. ASE preferred
- Ability to accept supervisory coaching related to performance, work habits and attitude
