  • Under the direction of the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) oversees all nursing service functions and activities to ensure high-quality patient care. The CNO provides strategic leadership, manages nursing services across all departments, and ensures compliance with healthcare standards and regulations. The role includes the development and implementation of policies and procedures, staff education, and resource management while focusing on improving patient outcomes and fostering a positive work environment.

    Supervisory Responsibilities :

  • Provide leadership and direction to nursing staff to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Monitor staff performance, conduct evaluations, and address performance concerns.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory standards, including Joint Commission, CMS, and state regulations.
  • Oversee recruitment, retention, and development of nursing staff.
  • Lead strategic initiatives to improve nursing practices and patient outcomes.
  • Leadership and Strategy :

  • Develop and implement a hospital-wide plan for nursing care, aligned with the hospital's mission and patient needs.
  • Collaborate with the governing body, medical staff, and hospital leadership to develop and execute strategic plans, budgets, and resource allocations.
  • Represent nursing services in board meetings and administrative discussions.
  • Operational Oversight :

  • Ensure nursing services are available continuously and efficiently.
  • Review daily schedules, staffing, and assignments to meet patient care needs.
  • Oversee the development and updating of policies, procedures, and job descriptions across nursing departments.
  • Performance Improvement and Quality Assurance :

  • Lead efforts to improve clinical outcomes through performance improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure nursing standards are based on the latest research and professional guidelines.
  • Develop and implement patient care programs and monitor their effectiveness.
  • Compliance and Regulatory Standards :

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Joint Commission, CMS, and state regulations.
  • Ensure all nursing practices and standards align with regulatory requirements.
  • Actively participate in accreditation and compliance preparation.
  • Human Resource Management :

  • Recruit, retain, and develop qualified nursing staff.
  • Conduct staff performance evaluations, manage payroll, and oversee disciplinary actions.
  • Plan and implement staff education programs to address competency and licensure requirements.
  • Financial and Resource Management :

  • Develop and manage nursing services' operational and capital budgets.
  • Optimize resource utilization and justify expenses with strategic action plans.
  • Identify and recommend space and resources needed for department operations.
  • Patient and Family Engagement :

  • Ensure nursing care is patient-centered and culturally sensitive.
  • Develop programs to educate patients and families about care plans and procedures.
  • Serve as a resource for resolving patient and family concerns.
  • Collaboration and Communication :

  • Work with clinical directors to align goals and improve service delivery.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, patients, and stakeholders to foster collaboration.
  • Participate in committees and hospital initiatives as a nursing leader.
  • Professional Development :

  • Stay informed about advancements in nursing practices and healthcare management.
  • Participate in workshops, seminars, and other professional development opportunities.
  • Mentor nursing staff and leadership to build a strong and motivated team.

    Required Skills

    Required Experience

    Education

  • Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required.
  • Masters’ Degree in Nursing or Healthcare Administration required.
  • Licensure / Certification

  • Current, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Texas.
  • Specific Job Experience

  • Demonstrated leadership and management experience in a nursing or healthcare setting.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement strategic initiatives in nursing care.
  • Experience with regulatory standards, including Joint Commission and CMS.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
