About The Role
The Lead Right of Way (ROW) Agent is responsible for overseeing and coordinating right-of-way acquisition, negotiations, permitting, and compliance processes for projects. This role ensures that all activities related to land acquisition, easements, and right-of-way agreements comply with company policies, industry regulations, and governmental requirements. The Lead ROW Agent will provide guidance to junior agents, manage relationships with property owners and stakeholders, and support project development teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead negotiations for easements, leases, licenses, and land acquisitions.
- Conduct property research and assess ownership records, land values, and title reports.
- Ensure all agreements comply with legal and regulatory standards.
- Supervise and mentor a team of ROW agents, providing guidance and training.
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, surveyors, and legal teams to ensure smooth ROW processes.
- Maintain project timelines and ensure timely completion of ROW acquisitions.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for landowners, government agencies, and utility companies.
- Address landowner concerns, negotiate settlements, and resolve disputes.
- Attend public meetings and hearings to represent ROW interests.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations (e.g., FERC, DOT, FHWA, state agencies).
- Prepare and review legal documents, contracts, and reports.
- Maintain accurate records of negotiations, agreements, and permits.
Key Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Real Estate, Land Management, or a related field (preferred).
- 5 years of experience in right-of-way acquisition, land negotiations, or real estate.
- Knowledge of ROW laws, eminent domain, and regulatory compliance.
- Strong negotiation and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to read and interpret property deeds, legal descriptions, and maps.
- Proficiency in GIS, Microsoft Office, and ROW management software.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required.
Key Nice-To-Haves
- SR/WA (Senior Right of Way Agent) or RWA (Right of Way Agent) certification from IRWA (International Right of Way Association).
- Real Estate License (if applicable).
