Job Title: Director-United Way in Montgomery County

Reports To: CEO Supervises: Community Impact Associate

POSITION SUMMARY

The Montgomery County Director’s main objective will be to maintain the United Way presence in Montgomery County. With the support of the local community, the Director will lead the process to develop and determine the most effective impact programs, community engagement strategies, and fundraising efforts to create positive, sustainable change in Montgomery County. The Director will also be responsible for creating the strategy to identify goals and key performance indicators associated with the responsibilities stated above.

The Montgomery County Director must understand the area’s changing needs, challenges, prospects, and issues. The Director will help build relationships in Montgomery County to help United Way understand community needs, build collaborative projects that improve family stability and educational success, and support community investments through grant-making and increase fundraising opportunities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF POSITION

The Montgomery County Director will be part of the United Way of Greater Lafayette (UWGL) team, developing relationships with local community leaders and members related to the impact initiatives for education, health and financial stability. The Director will work collaboratively with the UWGL team during the annual fall campaign and additional fundraising efforts throughout the year. The Director will work collaboratively with the UWGL team to prepare and adhere to the annual United Way in Montgomery County budget. The Director will leverage the power of relationships and networks and work across private, public, and corporate sectors to improve conditions in Montgomery County. The Director is responsible for building trust in United Way and its relevance in the community. In all functions, the Director will represent United Way in Montgomery County.

Community Impact, Project Development and Nonprofit Agency Relations:

  • Collaborate with area agencies to identify key needs of residents and gaps in services
  • Oversee the grantmaking/allocations process to nonprofit organizations in Montgomery County
  • Prioritize options for collaborative projects and work with the UWGL Community Impact Team and community members to plan, develop, build, and manage the projects
  • Bring together service providers to explore options for expanding services.
  • Investigate and develop collaborative grant opportunities from foundations and government

Community Relationship Building

  • Serve as the primary spokesperson and representative of the organization in the Montgomery County community
  • Conduct outreach to local community leaders to establish and build relationships.
  • Participate in local community and United Way special events
  • Host informational or fundraising events to connect community members with opportunities to support community impact work in Montgomery CountyConduct community listening sessions with local stakeholders and residents to understand the challenges, barriers, and solutions to improving lives in Montgomery County

Fundraising and Donor Relations

  • Plans, organizes, implements, and evaluates all fundraising programs within the framework of the volunteer campaign team structure
  • Engage with local companies, donors, and community members about giving to support the community impact work in Montgomery County, including support for local collaborative projects
  • Call on CEOs and/or Employee Campaign Coordinators (ECCs) to establish support for company campaigns and to ask for corporate and/or individual gifts
  • Assist ECCs to set campaign goals and to develop and implement campaign plans.
  • Deliver campaign materials and make presentations at employee meetings
  • Assist ECCs in reporting final campaign results and deliver pledge forms to United Way.
  • Assist in compiling data and resources for grant writing and reporting
  • Assist in sourcing grant opportunity and sponsorships available
  • Collaborate with UWGL team to manage grant deliverables when applicable
  • Trains on and engages with donor software to evaluate giving trends and donor data

Volunteer Recruitment and Management

  • Recruits, places, and oversees United Way in Montgomery County Advisory Board volunteers in roles to drive Fundraising, Community Impact, and Marketing
  • Recruits, places, and oversees United Way in Montgomery County Campaign Committee volunteers in running annual fundraising program
  • Recruits, places, and oversees United Way in Montgomery County Community Investment Committee volunteers in roles to review community investment applications and make recommendations for funding programs that address community issues

Collaboration:

  • Partner with other departments, including Marketing and Community Impact, to align fundraising efforts with organizational messaging and initiatives.
  • Work with the finance team to ensure accurate tracking and reporting of contributions.

Minimum requirements include:

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent experience or resource development experience preferred
  • Reside in and/or have an established history in Montgomery County
  • At least three years’ experience with government, nonprofit organization(s), educational institution, and/or businesses in the local Montgomery County area.
  • Experience working in community organization and mobilization, community relationship building, and fundraising

Other Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated skill in balancing multiple assignments.
  • Computer/Office Skills: Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Prefer skills in software management and reporting functions
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills to include:
  • Clear articulation
  • Engaging presentation skills
  • Ability to assess the needs of the audience
  • Effective administrative project management skills required
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of highly sensitive information
  • Compelling verbal and written communication skills required

  • Flexibility to work outside of normal office hours as needed
  • Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license and insured motor vehicle at all times.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment and routine criminal background check
  • ·Salesforce/CRM Software Experience a plus

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS and ENVIRONMENT:

To accomplish the essential functions of the position, one must be physically able to frequently and routinely:

  • Walking short distances
  • Bending, stooping, twisting
  • Reaching above and/or below the shoulder
  • Handling/grasping documents or office equipment
  • Sitting and/or standing for short or extended periods of time
  • Clear speaking and adequate hearing sufficient to communicate effectively and respond appropriately in person and/or on the telephone
  • Vision sufficient to read source materials and computer screen data
  • Repetitive motions for computer equipment use
  • Requires exertion of force of 20 pounds occasionally, 10 pounds frequently, and/or 5 pounds continuously to lift/carry/move objects, files, and documents
  • Work is performed primarily in an office environment using standard office equipment

TRAVEL

Travel is throughout an assigned territory typically during the business day with occasional evenings and weekends.
