The Director of Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging will lead the organization's efforts to foster a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplace. This individual will develop and implement strategic human resource initiatives aimed at talent retention, staff development, and organizational culture enhancement. Additionally, the Director will act as a trusted resource to external partners, offering guidance and strategies to support their equity and belonging goals.

This position reports to Executive Leadership

Accountability and Responsibilities

Organizational Leadership

  • Lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of equity, inclusion, and belonging (EIB) strategies that align with the organization's mission and values
  • Partner with executive leadership to embed EIB principles into all organizational policies and practices
  • Act as an advisor to leadership on emerging trends and best practices in equity and inclusion

Human Resources and Talent Development

  • Develop and oversee recruitment, onboarding, and retention strategies that prioritize diversity and equity
  • Create professional development initiatives focused on inclusive leadership and cultural competency for all staff
  • Foster a workplace culture where every individual feels valued, respected, and supported
  • Design and implement strategies to support a multi-generational workforce, ensuring that policies and practices address the diverse needs and strengths of employees at all career stages
  • Collaborate with HR to design equitable performance management systems and succession planning processes
  • Manage a staff committee dedicated to supporting the development and implementation of strategies that promote organizational health and talent retention
  • Facilitate committee meetings, ensuring alignment with broader organizational goals and fostering collaboration among members
  • External Partnerships and Resource Development

  • Serve as a consultant and partner to external organizations seeking to advance their equity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives
  • Provide training, workshops, and resource recommendations tailored to partner needs
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with community leaders, organizations, and networks
  • Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Develop metrics and tools to measure the effectiveness of EIB initiatives within the organization and with external partners
  • Regularly report progress, challenges, and successes to executive leadership and stakeholders
  • Communication and Advocacy

  • Act as a spokesperson for the organization's EIB efforts, presenting at conferences and events as needed
  • Develop communication strategies that highlight the organization's commitment to equity and inclusion
  • Equity & Inclusion

  • Appreciation of and willingness to work with and advocate for people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Consistently seeks to learn and understand the specific experiences of historically marginalized racial groups in the U.S., particularly Black, Indigenous, and Latinx groups
  • Education / Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, organizational development, social work, or a related field (advanced degree preferred)
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in equity and inclusion, human resources, or a related role
  • Proven track record of implementing successful EIB initiatives in a nonprofit or similar setting
  • Experience designing and supporting initiatives that promote engagement and collaboration across a multi-generational workforce
  • Demonstrated success in leading or managing committees or collaborative teams
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences
  • Expertise in facilitating training, workshops, and discussions on equity and belonging
  • Analytical mindset with experience in using data to inform strategies and decision-making
