What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Intern position at United Way of Greater Niagara?
Job Purpose:
The Community Relations Intern plays a vital role in strengthening United Way of Greater Niagara’s (UWGN) connection with local nonprofits, businesses, and the community we serve. Working closely with our Community & Business Development Associate, this position assists in building and maintaining meaningful partnerships that support our mission. In addition, the Community Relations Intern will coordinate evaluations, assist with events, and support the annual campaign.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Activities will be located mainly at the UWGN office: 6420 Inducon Drive West Ste B2, Sanborn, NY 14132. For activities involving site visits and community engagement opportunities, the intern will be assigned to travel within the Niagara County region by utilizing a personal vehicle. Mileage and expenses reimbursement will be provided.
1. Coordinating and executing program evaluations. This includes contacting agencies to complete evaluation forms, scheduling site visits, collecting data, and gathering testimonials and other content from programs.
2. Scout for new accounts that UWGN could be soliciting for donations, partnerships, volunteers, etc.
3. Maintain and cultivate relationships throughout the community by determining when UWGN should be present (ie. events, fairs, etc.). Intern will be point person for any external/community events that UWGN participates in.
4. Assists with planning UWGN events, including Days of Caring.
5. Work with Campaign Coordinator to prepare for campaign.
6. Assist with any mass mailings and perform other duties as assigned by UWGN staff.
This internship offers hands-on experience in nonprofit engagement, business development, and community
outreach, providing valuable skills in philanthropy, marketing, and corporate social responsibility.
Qualifications:
Education – Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university with a major in Communications, Marketing, Human Services, or Social Work.
Specialized knowledge – All Microsoft programs.
Skills – Strong verbal and excellent writing skills. Must have excellent organization skills, attention to detail and the ability to prioritize in a changing environment. Must have excellent interpersonal skills and follow-up skills, display a positive attitude, be able to meet deadlines, and work by objectives.
Abilities – Leadership potential, ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements/Dress Code - The internship will only require physical work when it comes to donation drop offs or pickups, and event set up. Intern will not be required to lift, carry or pull more than 10-15 pounds. The UWGN office dress code is business casual, except for Friday which are dress down days. It will be expected to dress accordingly, regardless of the day of the week, for meetings, site visits, events, etc.
