The Mission and Opportunity

United Way of Northern California (UWNC), based in Redding, is part of the world’s largest philanthropic network and the globe’s largest non-governmental funder of social services. UWNC fights for the health, education, and financial stability of all residents in its nine-county territory and is there for residents in times of crisis. UWNC aims to expand operations fully throughout the region. Services include but are not limited to, the 211 human services helpline, crisis and disaster relief and recovery, financial stability programs, activities that address homelessness, and public health education and information.

Job Summary

The Donor Engagement Specialist (DES) works with the Development Director to create a defined donor engagement and retention strategy for United Way of Northern California (UWNC). They will implement initiatives to increase donor retention and lifetime donor value. The DES will contribute to creating and implementing the annual development and communications plan. The Donor Engagement Specialist will assist in coordinating fundraising activities and donor appreciation events to meet the development and communication goals of UWNC. The DES will be given latitude to experiment, implement, and iterate and should, therefore, be someone who works well in an entrepreneurial environment and has a “get stuff done” attitude. This position requires a high level of independent thinking and an ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Additionally, the ability to manage multiple projects and determine priorities, approach tasks proactively, and have a high-functioning attention to detail. The DES will enjoy identifying and tackling new opportunities and is motivated to reach annual retention and donation goals.

Principal Job Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the Development Director, the DES will develop and implement a strategy for how UWNC onboards, stewards, engages, and renews donors.
  • Identifying and researching potential donors through various channels to build a qualified prospect pipeline.
  • The DES will maintain accurate donor and pipeline information in UWNC’s Customer Relationship Management System and collaborate regularly with the Finance Department to execute and manage post- award/post-gift donor acknowledgment process.
  • Execute and oversee donor stewardship and cultivation communications in an organized and timely manner
  • Conduct in-person visits with donors to strengthen donor relations
  • Participate in all aspects of planning and executing fundraising events, including procuring items. This will involve picking up donated items from businesses, transporting them to the event venue, setting up, cleaning up, and working at the events
  • Serve as the primary administrator for the donor CRM (Network for Good), maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of donor interactions and gifts and running reports
  • Oversee logistics for direct mail, including stewardship and solicitations
  • Help to identify prospective major donors through research and analytics
  • Conduct detailed research to identify potential donors, foundations, and corporate sponsors
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, dedicated to detail, clarity, and accuracy.
  • Strong project management skills. Can successfully manage a project from beginning to end, including the big picture and the minor details. Creative and resourceful. Can push ideas from concept to implementation.
  • Strong presentation skills. Comfortable speaking in public.
  • Track record of success in driving customer/client retention and upgrades.
  • Self-Starter. Proven track record of building and scaling a program.
  • Flexible; can pivot and adjust to change quickly.
  • Passionate about UWNC’s mission to fight for the health, education, and financial stability of all Northern California residents and to be there for the community during times of crisis.
  • Comfortable working with and for people of all backgrounds and beliefs.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Bilingual/Multilingual a plus.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Can lift up to 15 pounds; can work comfortably on a keyboard through an eight-hour shift.

This position requires travel within our 9-County region and occasional night and weekend shifts. Occasional travel to other cities in California may be required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $23.00 - $25.00 per hour
