Position Overview:
In this role, you will be the lead coordinator of our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) (November through April), which is a free tax preparation service for individuals for low income individuals. You will also assist with volunteer projects of Day of Caring (peak season April through September) and provide opportunities for corporate volunteers to engage in building the community under the areas of impact: education, income and health. This role also assists the lead coordinator over Sub for Santa (peak season October through December) using both volunteers and staff to provide holiday assistance to families. The position requires strong organizational skills, the ability to lead training, and the capacity to work with volunteers and community partners to ensure the success of these vital programs. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal skills, a proactive, self-starting approach, and a passion for community improvement, as well as strong organizational skills. This individual will take initiative on program improvement and foster meaningful relationships both within United Way and across the community. The role involves frequent interactions with a diverse range of contacts and requires someone who thrives in building new connections while helping to make a tangible difference in the lives of others.
Duties and Responsibilities:
VITA Program (November to April):
- VITA Volunteer Engagement: Lead efforts to recruit and onboard new VITA volunteers, ensuring alignment with program needs and growth objectives.
- Oversee VITA training programs: This includes securing trainers, setting up training sessions, answering program-related questions, and ensuring volunteers are prepared to provide high-quality service.
- Coordinate VITA logistics: This includes setting up sites, restocking materials, and overseeing takedown procedures, etc.
- Volunteer Retention: Play a key role in the growth and retention of VITA volunteers, ensuring positive experiences and engagement with the program.
Day of Caring Support (May to September):
- Elementary School Projects: Serve as the main point of contact for staff leads and project leads for Day of Caring projects related to elementary schools.
- Training Assistance: Support the coordination and execution of Day of Caring training sessions to prepare volunteers for various projects.
- Project Materials Creation: Create and manage materials for Day of Caring school projects, including staff matching packets, company information sheets, project descriptions, and impact infographics.
Sub for Santa Support (September to November):
- Miscellaneous Sub for Santa program support

Benefits and Compensation: Full-time (40 hours per week): 18.00/hour

Work Schedule:
Typically, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday (Full-time; 40 hrs. /week). Will be expected during seasonal peaks (November through December and August through September) to work nights and weekends depending upon the needs to support volunteers. The position reports to the Volunteer Center Manager.
Physical Activity: In the course of performing this job, the incumbent typically spends time sitting, walking, standing, listening, speaking, writing and operating a personal computer. Frequently, he/she will be required to drive an automobile to attend meetings or events within the community. Occasionally, he/she is expected to lift and carry office records and supplies up to 15 lbs.
